Well, I did it. I asked if it was even worth re-testing A1c's a month later:

http://www.diabetesforums.com/showthread.php?t=3755

And from that discussion, I decided to do it. Well, I went from 7.7 to 6.9! Which I suppose validates my recent strategies on getting my average blood sugar levels down...And what a reassurance it is! I'm going to get a little more aggressive here and see if I can get down below 6.5, to be more in the ADA target "non-diabetic" range.

I used the Choice Home Test, btw.

As a side note, I feel a little better than I do typically. Some of you may remember that I asked a few months ago at what point after eating should my sugars return to "normal"; I thought it was 4 hours, y'all straightened me out and told me it was 2. So with that correction alone, my sugars should be elevated for only 1/4 of the time they were remaining elevated back in the "dark ages". So that has helped. And reading about how aggressive some of you are with your MDI and pump therapy, I decided now is a good time in my life to get my ship righted. Thanks again to all here.

That's great news Duck. One little bit of advice : Please keep in contact with your endo to make sure any changes made are the right ones. I know, I'm acting like a mother but that's because I am one. LOL :)

If I didn't think more and more that my endo is incompetent, I would. Sigh, one day I'll make a post about why I dislike this guy...

Too bad about the endo, Duck. But that is great news about the A1C. I am no longer contemplating buying a home kit. I will check my A1C tomorrow night, after purchasing the home A1C kit, before a new pumper follow-up with my CDE on Tuesday (not scheduled for one at the endo office since my last test was considered in-control). I can only hope my A1C drops as well as yours did. I also switched to the 2-hour post-prandial test and I think that will really help. After tomorrow night I will be able to say, "and the number is...." :)

Way to go Duck!

I have always thought that the HBA1c result is even more useful information for the patient than it is for the doctor.

Mark, me too. The only good the A1c serves me at the doctor's office is if it is "good", I don't get a lecture. I'm going to ask next time I am in if it is okay to test monthly; How much do you wanna bet they will say no?

I'm going to ask next time I am in if it is okay to test monthly;

Why even ask? It's your $, your time and most important----Your Life.
Just be careful how close to normal non-diabetic range you get, we don't want you passsed out on the floor :(

:thumbsup: on the A1C, duck..sorry about the endo though. Lecturing is not fun for anyone, especially when it's done in such a condescending manner, as is often the case with doctors (god forbid some of them had to go through what their patients do! :eek: ). :( Hope everything smooths out on that front for you, and keep up the good work with the A1C! :)
