Hi Mel,

How long have you had diabetes? Do you have a close friend you can talk to?

i have two very important peices of advice for you.
1. pray about it
2. beleive that God will answer your prayers.

I know everything seems rough right now. Everybody on this forum has felt the same way that you do right now. But your attitude will determine if this whole thing turns out good or bad. i gotta be honest, i am still very new to this whole thing and I also cant get pregnant since i am a guy. but i can definitely tell you that there is a ton of knowledge in these forums. use the search feature at the top of the page and find another woman that has been or is pregnant and if there is anything that you arent totally comfortable talking about in the forums, send someone a pm and ask them for help. i can garauntee their answer will be yes.

How about going to a doctor to start with. You will get a medical opinion and support, as well as some direction on what other resources you can use. Best wishes .. ;) .

Do you know what your last A1c was? Can you tell us how you have been managing your diabetes? (Type insulins, amount, whether you carb count, etc.) If you haven't been taking good care of yourself, don't be shy! Many of us were in pretty bad shape before we joined these forums and started getting support from other diabetics.

I second the recommendation of seeing a doctor. Also, are you in school or working? If so, are there counseling-type options available?

Welcome to the forums, mel marker!

Sounds like you have quite a bit on your plate right now. Reaching out here seems like heading on the right path.

I agree-find a doctor who can help you get started on the road to good health and well being and come here for additional support.

There is someone always here for you! Brian is correct!:)

Regarding the messenger thing, there are icons to the top-right of each post that show if a poster uses any messaging service..

Welcome Mel.
It must be a pretty big shock to find out when you are pregnant when you don't expect it. You have a lot of support on here. Feel free to ask questions.
I'm 10 weeks pregnant and a type 1(LADA) diabetic. The diabetes certainly adds some unstablility to my blood sugars sometimes and this is the hardest thing I found with my pregnancy. My insulin needs up or down sometimes because there are a lot of extra hormones when you are pregnant but this is completely normal.
Try to get some folate as soon as you can, as diabetics have higher risk of spinal problems. This risk for spinal problems is very low if diabetics take folate I have been told. My doctor recommended I take 5mg(which is a high amount I get on a script from my doctor).

This is an excellent guide for pregnancy with diabetes. Just put the usual internet w and htps in front.

Hi Mel and welcome to the forum :)
I know you feeling a bit frightened and overwhelmed at the moment, but try to stay focussed on maintaining your health and exercise tight BGL for your optimal health and that of your baby's. I'm glad you've made an appt to see your Dr (to confirm your pregnancy and put you in touch with a Social Worker) that's a good start, I would also suggest you make an appt to see your Endocrinologist as your pregnancy will require extra insulin needs. Also, do you have a Diabetes Educator you can go and see and have a chat with - that would also be very beneficial for you.
Chin up, stay strong and healthy for you and your precious baby.

Big hug for you,

MJM

You are starting out on the right track by controlling your bloodsugars and adjusting your diet. That's a real good start. If you can go and see an endocrinologist, that would also be very beneficial. There is certainly no need for you to be scared. This time next year you will wonder what all the fuss was about.

Hey there, I understand how scared you are I started out many years ago with diabetes, sixteen years old and pregnant. My husband just went into the army, too. So your story sounds very familiar. First and foremost you must go to the doctor just to get on track. There are things you can do to be healthy and your baby can be healthy, too. Once you go to the doctor be consistant with your visits and do as he or she says, its so important. My first pregnancy was very hard on me and my baby boy had to be taken a month early and by cesarean section,he is nearly forty years old now. My daughter was born ,also by cesarean, she is now 30 years old.By that time I had learned a lot more and took better care of myself and my pregnancy. Medical science has come a long way since then and there are better ways to take care of yourself and your baby. Just like MJM said ,a year from now you will have a perfectly beautiful baby and everything will be fine. Good luck with everything!
