So after reading the Stephen King story "The Stationary Bike" I left with a great idea (not to mention a new way to envision my body -- read it if you can!). Count my mileage from all my exercises towards some kind of map-based goal. I wanted to set up my own goal, Google Maps style, but I couldn't find anything. Instead, I found this:
Tools to Keep You Active (http://exercise.lbl.gov/index.html)
You don't need to give your addy or email addy or anything to sign up, and you can log four exercises: walking, running, cycling, and walking/running (I'll be using walking/running for rollerblading, but thats just me :)) This website logs your progress along the TransAmerican trail, which runs from (I think) Virginia to California. On your personal page, it shows a picture of where you are right now (even if it's only a road lined with trees and a farmhouse :)) and shows how many miles until the next city. I walked for 1.5 miles yesterday and got really happy when the picture changed, so I did another 5 miles on my exercise bike -- this is the FIRST exercising I've done in about 4 months. Now I'm 6.8 miles away from Williamsburg, which I intend to pass as quickly as possible (had a HORRIBLE honeymoon there).
And, for once, I'm tracking something besides calories burned, which always depresses me.
