Today I went to eat lunch and noticed I only had 1 unit left in my pump! (thought I had about 10-15) Rather than drive back home and let my lunch get cold I decided to use my pen which had been sitting in my car for about 8 MONTHS (not a good idea, but I thought I'd try it anyway). The pen has been through the hot summer (90+ temps at times) and now the cold winter (10 degees F) last night. So the insulin has been heated up well beyond it's limits and chilled well beyound it's limits but it still worked perfectly! I can't explain it but this thing is 8 months old, has been sitting in my car and still worked.
Just thought I'd share this because it really shocked me.
Also, I had planned on driving home and getting my insulin when I was done with lunch. I just thought the old stuff might work SOME to keep me from going too high but I didn't need to.
Anyone else have a similar experience?

Holy Smoley!!!
I think i would have been way too chicken to try that. I haved used insulin that has been opened for months and months, but it was always stuff that was kept in the fridge. "In the beginning", when i was on NPH and Regular, i used pens when i was out and away from home, but i always had syringes and vials in my fridge.
Since i took both insulins before breakfast, my choice was to mix them in the syringe rather than take 2 shots. Besides, vials were cheaper than pen cartriges. But since i used my Regular pen every day at lunch and many days at dinner, and i only used small quantities, it sometimes took me monts to finish a vial. I never had problems with the insulin, but it was always stored in the fridge.

I'm really not too surprised. I think all the dire warnings are to protect the company from lawsuits. When we lived in Colorado I never kept my insulin in the fridge, it never got warm enough, even in the house, to worry about it.

This Novolog still works?!!
Funny that you should bring this up now. Yesterday, when you posted this, I was just figuring out that my Novolog was going bad. Switched penfills in my InDuo, and today I'm back to..........welllll, as normal as I'm gonna be.
Took me two days to figure out that the Novolog had gone bad>>and it can't be that it's been too hot since it's been freezing around here.
