Hi. I am new here. I have type 2 diabetes. I am in the proliferative stage of diabetic retinopathy. I have had laser treatments done almost 6 weeks ago now in both eyes and though I have been informed that I'm showing progress, I still have so many questions that I think people here can answer better, or at least more honestly.
1. I have cobwebs in both eyes, how long does this take to go away? How long did it take for you at least?
2. After laser treatment, how long did you wait till you had a vitretomy?
3. Before my laser treatment, I also became very sensitive to light, is this a characteristic of the leakage in my eye or is this exclusively cataract? Will this go away if the laser treatment is successful and the leakage stops?
4. I also have macular edema in my right eye. I have lost some detail in my vision. Can the detail in my vision be restored?
I'm from Los Angeles, but currently work overseas and do not have US health insurance but would like to seek medical treatment in the US, Los Angeles preferably. I am in the Philippines right now, and have been seeking medical treatment out here, but I am really uncomfortable with the doctors out here, no disrespect to anyone. Can anyone give me a rough estimate of costs for a vitrectomy in the US or the costs of the treatments you are currently getting ie. laser, or injections? I just feel that my chances would be much better going home than staying out here. Also any recommendations for doctors in the Southern California area would be very helpful. Thank you so much.

Have you had hemhoraging in your eyes? If the cobwebs are left over blood, it will slowly clear over 3 to 4 months. If it's floaters, it likely won't clear much. It may even worsen some.

I was 12 years between PRP and vitrectomy. I had mediocre control. Last A1C on MDI was 7.3%.

Blood pressure management is important: weight loss, good activity, low-carb diet, no caffeine, and take BP meds.

The key to eye health is good blood sugars. Get your A1C down to 6% or lower.

I suspect but don't really know another key is our Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio. I don't eat many grains at all, and I choose grass fed meats, mostly. Eat lots of green leafy veggies and of course fish and fish pills. I avoid flax, but I don't know that they are bad.

Finally, do not smoke. Smoking really is like throwing gas on a fire. It constricts blood veessels. For a diabetic, it's an insane habit to live with. Retinopathy, amputation, and death are just the start of the fun.

Hi:

Can anyone tell me why avoid flax? I thought it was good for you. What are the downsides? I have recently started eating more of it.
