(((dream over))) Wake up, my insurance is non-existant..I'm not EVER going to be able to afford it....duntdundunnnnnn... the life of the poor diabetic! No good news today folks!

I'm right there with you - wishing tricare would cover me for CGM and the omni-pod. Then I would be almost half robot, way awesome, but not gonna happen. I also like the name, makes me think of battletech :D

Anybody know if the price of this stuff is ever gonna go down?

Without insurance pumping is not a very cheap thing...

If you should acquire insurance I hope you get both a pod and a CGM. ( knocking on wood here for you! )

We HAVE insurance (Kaiser) and they won't cover the Omnipod. It hasn't been approved (or even reviewd yet!) for their formulary.

Same boat here, SuzySushi. It's the only pump I can remotely afford the startup costs on, since the startup is only $800 compared to the $2000 copay I'd have with any of the others.

Will your all's insurances not even cover the Omnipod getting it from a Medical Supplies company? My husbands insurance *United Health* would only cover a portion of the Omnipod costs but when Omnipod contacted me they said I could get 100% coverage if I got my supplies from Edgepark so thats where I'm getting mine from. I do have to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Pod and refuse to EVER go back on shots or anything else...unless its a cure of course. Anyways I hope yawl can get things worked out!

I can't speak for the others, but in my case... it's the copay that kills me. My out of pocket copay is $1000. However, since the pump is considered a durable good, they can sock me for a max of $2000 out of pocket.

My insurance does not cover the pod, so I really can't afford it either, as the ongoing costs are far higher for the pod than it is for the others.

D

I really cant see that the Pod is THAT more expensive, I was on a MM YEARS ago and the pump itself, not the supplies or anything was 5,000 thankfully I was still under my parents insurance then and it covered all of it. Best luck to all!

ME TOOOOO!

The pump and the CGMS are never going to be covered by any insurance company here. (Hopeless). Once my doctor has suggested me to use a pump. He said the clinic could 'generously' lend me the pump for free, but I have to pay for the consumables, which means that they are pushing me away from the pump...I wish I am rich enough someday (um...i am actively buying lottery now~) :P

My biggest concern was if I bought the Pod if I would be able to keep affording the supplies every 3 months. Which is around 100.00 a month just for the pods. they make you buy 3 months at a time. and let you pay it monthly. My husband says we will just have to deal with that road when we cross it. Hopefully I will always be able to afford the pods... :D

The list price for one month of pods (10 pods) is $350, not $100, unless that's your deductible or co-payment. The pods are what makes the OmniPod system more expensive over time. A traditional pump costs a lot more up front but the monthly supplies cost less than half of what the pods do.

I really feel for you guys over the pond. We complain about the NHS but at least prescriptions are free for diabetics. We don't get meters free tho ( but if you know what you're doing you can :D) We get pumps on NHS now and more Dr's are telling their patients to think about switching from injections to pumps which is a good thing. But you lot do get first go at all the new technology.

I guess thats my 20% co-insurance. It's still alot.
