K..I found that this particular situation is harder to predict, after going to a sit down communion fest...the two apps available were carby, the dinner came out quite a bit later...and the toughest part was that there was quite a bit of unexpected dancing...plus i was distracted chasing the two year old as my dh had left early

found myself intermittently sucking cranberry juice to balance out an attempted pre-bolus gone awry..

Next time, i will definately wait to see what the apps are before beginning pre-bolus performance...(just my guess is that i might miss the apps altogether if i wait too long..i'd rather eat apps than the dinner on these events).

Is it okay to give the bare minimum and correct later, or should i just eat and then inject afterwards? any suggestions will be appreciated..

Guess eating out will just continue to bounce me around as there are just some things you can't predict...did I answer my questions myself?

when I am out I always wait till the food is right there on the plate and ready for down the hatch.. one reason is that sometimes I taste it and yuk... and of course the unexpected delays in delivery is a problem too... I would give a shot for the appy , going on the cautious side and then another for the main when it arrived, again prolly knocking at least a unit off what I thought.. and then test and correct if needed..and have to say am surprised how many times I don't need to correct, even though I am sure I have underdosed.. things happen when we are out and sometimes we don't realize we are doing more than usual...

I wish I could offer some suggestions but I can only say I know what you mean! I went to a wedding last week and my numbers were still up when I checked my fasting the following morning. Unfortunately, I wasn't seeing the Endo about starting the rapid acting until 2 days later so that wasn't an option. But I hear ya when you say that the banquet situation is a very tricky one when trying to keep a stable BGL.

Good luck next time around!

:) Hi Lori,
Banquets or just eating out in a group situation is difficult .There can be delays as you said or hidden carbs. I either bolus just after I eat or under bolus and correct later.

whenever i go out a take at least one bag of spicy pork crackling and a handful of sugarfree (absolutely carb free) candy.

if in doubt i eat meat and salad and nothing else (and sneak off to eat the pork cracking if i get peckish)...

I do the same. It can be tricky. Although for me, it takes a good 30-45 mins before Novalog begins working for me, so I usually order, wait a little bit, then shoot up. For me it peaks at like 90 mins so I have plenty of time. For times like weddings, friend/family gatherings, picniks, etc where your food intake can be spread out over several hours, I take multiple shots. I will tend to roller coaster a bit, but not terribly. Im excited to start my pod so I can use extended boluses, etc. Its much harder with MDI.
