I just need to keep up my routine and exercise 3 times a week.

Congratulation Russel and may you continue to have great results like this one. However you may need to exercise more often than 3 x weekly.

You are so right about exercise helping lower your BG. At the beginning when I was learning about what foods I could tolerate and the amounts,(not that I have that down pat yet)my BG was 170 post prandial? I got on my treadmill for 15 minutes, rechecked my BG and it was 130. My nutritional instructor told me that exercise has a carry over effect for sometimes up to 6 hrs. A good reason for that short walk everyday. Keep up the good work.

Good for you Russell.

Hopefully is what'll happen is that it will act as a motivator for you. It's hard to get too much exercise and the benefits of it can not be overstated. I had great control without exercise, but I seriously doubt I would have been able to come off meds without the exercise. Plus it makes you feel so much better.

Thanks Y'all!

I was doing so well the first three months of the new year and got busy and lazy. But it is very motivating seeing instant results. So hard to make time for it but it is critical for my D.

You know what they say though about every hour of exercising adding two extra hours to our life, not withstanding the fact that it actually improves the quality of our current one.

I walk every morning for half an hour. During that time i call my family on the phone and chat with them and by the time we are done, I am nearly back home. I feel better, my old parents love it so do my numbers so it's all good!

I get mixed resluts from the exercise. At first it worked but now it seems my body has got use to the exercise and numbers are back up. Last night I walked 3 miles , ate low carb dinner, did the midnight rye cracker and almond butter and still had fasting of 135 this morning.

Have you tried to switch your walking from evening to morning? I did and since then, my numbers have been consistently lower.

Hi Russell!

Congratulations! I hope you also enjoyed the exercise as that is the critical element. Anything that you enjoy doing you will continue to do. As an avid tandemist/bicyclist I love the feeling of being on the roads using my own energy to produce speed and endurance. Oh yes, it helps the BG levels as well as other body chemistry as well.

"So hard to make time for it but it is critical for my D"

That's the part that was the hardest for me. There are only so many hours in the day and some things are rigid. I did have to revamp some things in my life in order to make the time for regular exercise. One of the things that has suffered a bit is sleep, unfortunately. I sleep about an hour less per night now just to make room for exercise. The nice thing is that I haven't been needing it, I feel better rested with exercise and less sleep than no exercise and more sleep. I basically just had to force myself to "make time" for it. As you said, it is critical to the management of your diabetes, but it's also essential for your overall well-being.

I try and mix the exercise up as much as possible to keep it from getting stale. And to keep my body from getting to used to the same old routine. However, I make sure that I do *something* extra each and every day. Yesterday, I had zero motivation for the gym. I felt a bit guilty about it, so instead I did two hundred pushups in the comfort of my home and then played basketball in the back yard with a couple of neighborhood kids for an hour. I figure as long as I am getting up and doing something, anything, it's far better than the alternate.

I was reading an article about Michelle Obama and she said "I found I had no time for myself and I want my girls to see a mother who cares for herself so I got up every morning at 5 a.m. to work out as that is when I could fit it in. "

Wow! She is tall and slim and looks like she works out. I am not that way at all but her comment was an "a ha" moment for me. I would never consider getting out of bed to exercise...look where that got me? Now my body is telling me I have to get up and exercise. LOL. We all learn everyday.

Russell I will make a deal with you-You walk 20 minutes a day and I will too. Deal?:)

I find my walking partner is too undependable so I have hold myself accountable.
