I can't seem to get my blood sugar to come down. I am on the pump at 2 units a hour plus of cource more when eatting ect. Last week I had to go to Er as I could not function and my BS kept going up and up. It was in the 600 range when I get to Er and they took me right back and hooked me up gave me shots and liquid . Told me to get into a Dr. soon as it's out of control. Which I already knew.
It had been between 300 and 650 for two weeks But yet My ketones was clear.

I am inbetween Dr's but should hopefully have a appointment next week.

Tonight it has been around 400. I took 20 units as I was fixing to eat also and also wanted to bring it down. didn't work . I took 2 hours later still not coming down. This has been going on all night.

I have thrown away my Novolog and started a new bottle and still not coming down to where it should be.

I am counting carbs and taking what the Dr had told me but nothing seems to be keeping my BS down. Basically since I started shots then pump ect I've never been able to keep my bs low for more then a day or so.

what's wrong with me? This is so depressing. I also don't understand since I am always high why is it not showing in my ketones?

As you are on a pump have you tried changing sites more frequently? How often do you change your cannula? Also where are you using the the cannula? Perhaps you need to change the area due to no absorption.

What infusion set are you using? If you do a correction and your BG does not come down you should immediately take the next correction with a syringe and change the infusion set.

It may be that the infusion set you're using is not the right one for you. I started using Quick-Sets and had many problems with the cannulas kinking and not delivering insulin. My BG would go up, I'd correct, it would be even higher at the next BG check. Switching to Silhouettes fixed the problem. You might want to call your pump company and see about getting samples of different types of sets to try.

If you do a correction with a syringe and your BG returns to normal, then you know for sure there's a problem with either your infusion sets or the pump.
