So I am fairly new to living with diabetes and had an experience last week that I am not to sure about.

Before becoming diabetic I always hated needles with a passion and am still a little squeamish about giving my self injections even though the needle tips on the pens (5mm) are really no big deal compared the the needles I saw my brother and father giving themselves when I was growing up. Any way, while pulling the needle out of my butox I had noticed that the 5mm needle hadn't gone completely in (half way or less) and was only a little bit under my skin. I then noticed a discolouration form around the injection site form that sort of looked like a bruise but not as dark. It has since gone away and my BG afterward was fine. I was just wondering has this happened to anyone else and should I be worried about it if it happens again?

I would guess that you probably butted up against some muscle, given that the needle wasn't in to the base. You may also have nicked a venule (minute veins that run just under the skin) which would've caused a slight pooling of blood and probably the discolouration you noticed.

You may want to stay away from that site in the future, although it could've been a one-shot deal. ;) I've had that happen several times in the past and unless it's affecting your BG levels, I wouldn't call it a concern.
