I try and handle every day one day at a time. It was what I taught myself when I was in Viet Nam and it helped carry me through two tours of duty there and now it is helping me with my diabetes.

Ehh... no fears - no more fears than a "normal" (non-diabetec) person would have.
Sure - when I feel an insulin low - hypo - approaching, there is fear that I need to eat quick.
Apart from the abnormal insulin reaction, I try to eat much the same each day - sort of boring, perhaps, but nourishing, plus much better for control of blood sugar. There are days when the daily routine gets shook up, but then you roll with that and guess a bit different, then adjust your eating and insulin to match - but the normal days are much the same exercise and eating routines - which ends up with routine blood sugars. Normal is routine - sun comes up, sun goes down - a routine we count on.

Hi marijapatch... I know where you are coming from. There is so much to be said for sharing knowledge and support. A few things come to my mind in answering your question, but I think the best place to simply start is to "break it down", get to the nitty gritty of what's going on. That's one process where talking about it can be so helpful.
Welcome to the board!

thanks for your reply- i m usually very optimistic and so on however, having to cope with university, part time job- particularly to buy extra syringes and sticks for diabetes+ am going abroad to study soon, and life in general, sometimes is really 'impossible'. everyone has fears... me included, and getting in this forum has already started tomake some good effect- seeing many people coping like its really nothing, really is a push up for me!
speaking of quotes... "Handle every stressful situation like a dog... if you cannot eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away" :)
and on a more serious note... "the best angle from which to approach any problem is the TRY- ANGLE"
tnx for the advice!

I meant "coming from" as in your search for hints and approaches to better control... I've been there a lot ;)
A plan can be good, yes, but just discussing the issues one by one and reflecting off what other people think and contribute to your knowledge, can help you write a much better plan... or just know which single step to make next.
That's why this place is so useful, you can discuss specific issues that often we can't discuss much with people around us and often get some experience and differing opinions and approaches.
I guess I'd add in another issue I think is really relevant for so many type 1s in keeping an even keel - especially during turbulent times of life - stress management in general. Stress will impact your blood sugars, often badly, and your ability to cope and function. You might need to more actively pursue avoiding stressful thinking habits and de-stressing your body on a regular basis.

I have a beautiful girlfriend who I have been dating for over 2 years. She has pushed me to make my Diabetes better. and thinking she might be my wife one day. I do not want to end up in hospital or dieing on her when we are older. Plus with my family behind my back.
Hi, and welcome. You asked for tips on what to do to maintain good control. For me, the five key ingredients are dietary control, daily exercise (even for a few minutes if time is tight), frequent blood sugar testing, taking acting on the results of the tests, and last but not least - having some fun. I am also religious about taking a few minutes every day for deep breathing and meditative reflection - this help keep me centered.
