I just got home from running the "Jay Dix Challenge to Cure", a 10k here in Columbia, MO. This race was in support of cancer research. It was a beautiful morning for a race!!! Fifty-five and sunny, slight breeze, just perfect! There was a 5k and a 10k, with the 10k doing the same 5k loop twice. I started out strong but controlled, and felt good through the end of the first 5k, but had to slow slightly for the final mile of the 10k. But my overall results were great! I had a goal of finishing in under 38 minutes and my final time was 37:54...sweet! I also finished first in my age division! Overall a successful and fun race.
I plan on focusing more on speed workouts for the next couple of months before I begin training for the Chicago Marathon that takes place in October. I'll be running this race with a fundrasing charity to support diabetes research, and some of the money goes to Dr. Faustman research facility. If you haven't been to my site yet check it out here (http://www.diabetesaction.org/site/TR/Events/Tributes?px=1201281&pg=personal&fr_id=1210). No pressure to donate or anything, but I finally figured out how to post my blogs, and I'm kinda proud of my site (as I blush:o ). I'll be posting there frequently so people can see how training is going.:D
