View Full Version : A Visit to My Endo today
Hi Everyone....
Just a quick on really.... just saw my Endo today as its my 1 yr anniversary of the Big "D" !!!! I was a little disappointed in my A1C it had jumped up to 7.7  also my cholestoral was a little on the high side.....so I spoke with the nutritionist because I keep loosing weight.... it's sooo fustrating..... I now weigh about 105lbs/7st12/49kg. So my question is..... do any of you know of anything natural....a suppliment or certain types of food that can help naturally lower my cholestoral so that I can continue putting on weight????
Other than that..... my first year hasn't been too bad..... I'm riding the ride!!!!
Thanks!

Did your endo test your TSH? I would be considering hypothyroidism perhaps, with high lipids ...
No idea what that is.... TSH???? They did also say I have VERY low blood pressure?

How old are you? Low BP is not uncommon. When my TSH is low, my BP tends to be high, however ...
TSH is thyroid stimulating hormone. It is produced in the pituitary, and stimulates the thyroid to produce thyroxine.

How many carbs, proteins and fat do you eat a day? Or just kcal if you don't know the specifics.
Ok.... so I'm 32 and I'm very healthy... I'm a dancer. Maybe thats the reason for the Low BP???
I'm not sure what my exact carb/protien/fat intake is per day...
but here is a general run down....
breakfast; Branflakes with semi skimmed milk and an egg white omlette
Lunch; salad/tomatoes/cucumber/sunflowerseeds/beetroot/chickpeas/coleslaw with oil and a splash of balsamic and a bread roll.
Dinner; Chicken breast or tuna with plain pasta and veg ( broccoli/carrots/ runner beans) and a yougart
for snaks I'm eating mixed nuts( plain) and fruit and an oatmeal and raisin bar before performances
I hope this helps????
Thank you for your help

Just my opinion here.
If your A1c is on the high side AND you are losing weight you probably want to increase your insulin.

I agree with focusing on improving control. Just to expand a little: if your BGs are periodically high, often in the region of say 13 mmol/l + for lengths of time, then around those times you'll be in a ketotic state and literally pissing your weight off.
Stabilising your BG further, will reducethe frequency of these episodes. So not only will you be reducing the risks of future complications from better control, but it should help you maintain weight better.
How to keep an eye on this issue? Get yourself some home testing for ketones, either ketostix or you can also get BG testers now that test for ketones as well, and check when you are running high. It's a good idea anyway to have them on hand, the primary reason being that high ketones leads to a very dangerous scenario and are good to check if very high and not sure of the severity of the effect. But in the end, just focusing on the BG numbers and doing what it takes to get them as normal as possible, is the trick for control and avoiding ketones, danger, and as a side effect, weight loss.
Hey everyone.... thanks for the help.... I have very good BG control... the only time I run my numbers a little high (usually at 12) is before I start 2 hrs of shows to prevent me from going hypo as I was in the beginning of having this disease..... but maybe I have more confidence to not do that anymore.... I guess trial and error right??? Other than my shows and at show time I have excellent Glucose control.
Thanx for the ketones advice too.... I'm getting some strips tomorrow .... so has made me very curious! Thanx again.

An A1c of 7.7 sounds like there is room for improvement with your control.
I don't disagree with doing what you have to to avoid hypos.
But there are other ways besides running high to do that.
If you are not pumping or using a long acting basal and rapid acting bolus insulin (MDI), counting carbs and working with Insulin to Carb ratios(I:C) and Correction ratios, you might want to look into those.
That might allow you to cut back on your rapid to avoid the lows rather than running high.
If you are already doing that you might want to try to fine tune your basal. Hard exercise days are the one time I find my basal is too high. I either cut it back if I know what's coming or eat extra to keep my BS up.
Good luck,
Tommy

Hi, Siri.
I'm just wondering what you have been told is good control. What are your daily numbers like? I ask because Your A1C is a 7.7, which equals out (if my calculations are correct) to an average bg of 196 mg/dl or almost 11 mmol!
I do understand that occasionally you do let it go high (to 12 mmol) on purpose, but assuming you don't have a show every day, something's wrong with your numbers somewhere & you probably are literally "pissing off your weight" as someone else put it.
