Is there an easier way to get pump supplies than going directly through animus? We've alway dealt directly with them but have recently gotten a huge run-around from them. Will going through Liberty Medical make the process easier I wonder? Animus does state that Liberty is one of their distributors. Seems like they might be able to better deal with the red tape. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We're almost out of pump sites and had to buy a box for $100.

You should call your insurance and find out which DME suppliers are in-network. It doesn't matter if Liberty is one of Animas' distributors if it isn't in-network with your insurance. Alternately, you can call some DME suppliers and give them your insurance info to find out if they can deal with it. I have Minimed and get my supplies directly from them but I think I can also use Edgepark if I wanted to.

I use A Plus Medical Supply--Home (http://www.aplusmedicalsupply.com/) for all my pump stuff. They don't balance bill, and even if you are out of network for them, they will take what your insurance company pays them and you won't ever get a bill from them.
They ship monthly instead of every 3 months and I have been using them for about 2 years now with ZERO issues/problems.

What troubles are you having wtih Animas? I have used them for pump supplies for 6 years with no problems. Maybe I could be of some help as I find they are the easiest to deal with and take what my insurance pays as 100%.

What do they send you each month? I get quarterly shipments from Minimed, 4 boxes of sets. I change every 3 days and if nothing goes wrong with a set, it means I have an extra box at the end of 3 months. I wouldn't want to get 1 box shipped monthly because things can & do go wrong.
I always assumed all insurance companies covered the same amount, 4 boxes every 90 days but I know some people do change sets more often, so I'm not sure why I assumed 40 sets was the limit.

At this time they send me my strips and Insulin each month, as they don't Carry pods yet.
When I was on my 722, they sent me 2 box's of sets and 2 box of cartridges. I changed sets every 2 days, and needed more than 1 box of each per month. I needed 1 1/2 box's. So after a few months when I had leftovers, I would call them and tell them to skip a shipment or reduce what they ship because I had extra.

I have United Healthcare and I'm allowed 3 boxes of Quik-Sets & 3 boxes of reservoirs every 3 months. I wish they'd approve 4 boxes, but they won't. I had problems with them paying for 300 test strips a month. They kept denying my claims saying that 300 were "excessive". I'm a type 1 and test 8-10 times a day. It took many, many calls & the involvement of my endo & the HR dept for the State of RI before United started paying!

An excellent source for the animas is FIFTY 50 Home of FIFTY 50 Foods, FIFTY 50 Pharmacy&The Low Glycemic Diet (http://www.fifty50.com/)
They contribute proceeds back to JDRF. We have been using Smith Medical but they are getting out of the diabetes supplies. We learned about fifty/50 at the last JDRF function that we went to.

What does that mean that they don't balance bill?

It means they don't bill you the balance owed - they write it off.

If your insurance covers 80% of the cost, then they won't bill you for the other 20%. They take whatever your insurance pays them as payment in full.

That is good to know. That may allow me to actually afford a pump. Do you think the do it even if I have a 50/50?

Um, A Plus Medical Supply was supposed to check with my insurance company, and then call me. Today, I get this box filled with diabetes care supplies (test strips, alc preps, syringes, lancets, etc) without prior request or authorization from me. I have no clue what to do, however I'm not signing the release form until I know what's going on.

D

Call them and ask them about it, or just return it to them.
