I went to the Dr last week bc I couldnt keep my Bs down.
Today I got the call from the Dr. My Ac1 is 10 and my Liver levels are high.

Here is what my levels was
ast 104 alt 99
Atkaline was 135
bilirubin 1.5

Does anyone know how high this is? I don't drink and only take tylone when I have a headache which is not to often. She is getting me appointment with another diabetic Dr and giving him my results( she said she does not treat diabetics with the pump)

I am really nervous and kinda scared.

I'm not familiar with any of thoses test results. I'd call your doctor and ask for a copy of the printed lab results. It should give you the actual number and what your lab considers normal for that range.

If they don't have that, you need to ask your doctor to find out what the normal ranges are according to their lab.

EDIT: Oops. We all need to remember, our doctor is only a part of our "team". We, you and I, are the leader of our own team. The team will only give us what we ask for. The team will usually bend over backward to meet the needs we request. We just have to think to request what we need.

EDIT 2: BTW, where'd you get that quote from? That's got to be the truest and funniest thing I've read on Diabetes.

Regards,

D

I have no idea if this is going to apply to you. are you overweight? apparently metabolic disorder and extra wieght cause "fatty liver disease" I had that. all those numbers were elevated for me as well. but when I got the BS under control and lost weight all the numbers went back to normal.

just FYI

High levels of bilirubin cause jaundice, but I'm not sure what a 1.5 (mg/dL?) means since I believe it is usually looked at in conjunction with the other liver tests.

The other one is probably alkaline phosphatase - I think 135 is on the higher end of normal...

Hi there - did the Dr find the cause of your high BGLs? (cold, infection, pump promblems)

An A1c of 10 is pretty high, do you have a Diabetic Educator you can chat to about pumping?

Perhaps if you post your basal/bolus pumping regime some of the more experienced members could give you some suggestions and advice.

Hang in there and stay strong, we're all here for you.

The Dr did not find out the reason for me being high :(
She said she thinks it is stress.

I am wondering if my belly pain is related. I've posted about it months ago but every Dr. I go to basically blows me off. One did do a catscan and told me everything was ok. I have pain in the left side of my belly area( on the side kinda higher up)

I take 2 units with the pump every hour and then I take 1 unit for every 15 carbs.
I am a lil over weight but I am working on it or uh trying. I walk every night with my Dh but my belly pain keeps me from running. Also my feet and legs feel so tight when I walk and go numb at times. My hands go numb after I type for long periods.

If your A1C is that high then it's likely that other numbers you have from other tests will also be unsatisfactory.

You say your doctor couldn't find out your reason for being high - what are your day-to-day BGs like?

Could whatever is increasing the liver enzymes also be raising the blood glucose?

I would suggest that you ask your Dr to have an ultra-sound done on the area of your abdonem that is hurting.
If you have on-going pain in the same spot - then it's pretty obvious that something is wrong there.
And being in constant pain would affect your BGLs as your body is stressed - but I don't know by how much.

If you feel your current Dr is not 'stepping up to the plate', shop around for another who will.

Hope this gets sorted out for you soon.

Sending you a (((Hug)))

Thank you everyone. I upped my hourly to 3.0 and will use that until the Dr appointment. I have one appointment in two weeks and the other is not until middle of next month (blah). My Dh and I are also going to start working out more.

Just a update sorta. my blood sugar has been staying under control since I changed my dose to 3 a hour and 6 for onr carb. However the other day when my Dh went to put eye drops in my eyes becasue they was dry he noticed my white in the lower of my eyes are now yellow :( soo. I have a Dr appointment tomorrow and I'll let everyone know what I find out!

Was that a direct or total bili?

Either way, 1.5 shouldn't be enough to cause icterus (yellowing of the eyes) so I'd want the liver functions retested somewhat soon. Did they give you a GI referral? None of those numbers are shockingly high, but probably not a bad idea, anyways.

Amazing how long it takes MD's with all the training to realize something is wrong. Contstant pain should always be a clear signal to them...Good luck and always always take charge of your health and treatment.

I agree. I've went to no less then 5 Dr's complaining about pain and everyone just passed me on.He got me in as fast as they could and says he should know something the middle of next week.

I asked the DR that today and was told no.
