:( im confused. can protein and fibre and other nutritional values in foods spike my bgls?

at the moment i use the 1:10 ratio. im still very ignorant of my condition and unsure about my diet etc.

if i were to eat celery and peanut butter would i have to bolus extra for the protein?

how does each nutritional value effect bgls?

what is an example of a 'perfect' day in terms of meals which cover all the right food groups? (low fat, carb, calorie etc.. but enough dairy/protein/fibre for the day)

!!

I'm new to this too, but here's what I know:

Everyone should get at least 25 grams of fiber per day.

You do not need to bolus for the fiber itself--but it is a carb, so it's included in the carb info. Fiber is not broken down and absorbed by your system (at least not very quickly), so it really just "passes through".

I was instructed to reduce the carbs I'm considering when calculating my bolus by half of the grams of fiber.

For example, eating a bowl in shredded wheat: 1 cup of cereal has 40 grams of carbs, including 6 grams of fiber. So, I calculate my bolus based on 37 grams of carbs (plus the skim milk).

I do not know about protein, I don't think you have to consider it for your bolus calcs.

I hope this helps a little!

I was always told to subtract the Fiber from your total Carbs to give you the Carbs you should Bolus for. Been doing it for years and have had no issues with it. Mind you the nnumbers tend to be so small that they really don't impact your I:C all that much.
