Does anyone out there know if there is a connection between insulin resistance and consistently low body temp? I'm quite sure it affects metabolism, but how . . . don't have a clue.
My body temp is 2 to 2.5 degrees below all the time - don't remember ever having a so-called normal 98.6 . . . except when I have a fever.
Have low Testosterone and Sleep Apnea, too. Treating low T with small semi-weekly injections - use CPAP nightly (even for naps on the rare occasion), but my regular doctor, cardiologist and endo cannot explain low temp and seem unconcerned. Especially interested since people in the field are now saying that there is a loose connection between insulin resistance, Low T and Apnea.
Thanks for any info.

98.6 is just an average. Mine is usually 97.5 avg. I've always been this way. I don't know about a correlation between insulin resistance and body temp.

Ted,
Your pituitary could just have a lower set point.
Or, interestingly, any of these conditions may also contribute:
Hypothyroidism (under-active thyroid)
Addison’s Disease (Adrenal Gland Insufficiency)
Dysfunction of the Hypothalamus
Diabetes
Sepsis or wide spread infection
Liver failure
Kidney failure
Drug or alcohol abuse
Side effects of certain medications
My temp is usually 97 - 97.5 -- I have a very underactive thyroid.

I completely agree with both Jan and the Barbarian. My average body temperature is 99.0 - 99.5. I am a very hot natured person who just happens to also be very insulin resistant. In other words... no, the temp shouldn't really be part of the resistance problem. The thyroid (well, the entire endocrine system) is responsible for maintaining your body temperature.
If you are having issues, consult with your Endo. if you don't have an Endo, request one. Even if you are pre-diabetic you should be taking your health very seriously now, so as to avoid problems down the road.
BTW, there are a lot of us, myself included, that use the CPAP. How do you like yours? I won't sleep (or even nap) without mine. :)

Thanks for advice. And, yes - no sleep without CPAP. Just got a new one, and just started using a nose pillow instead of a mask . . . love it! Less leaks, less cumbersome. The new CPAP I'm not so sure about. It's a new Respronics with "Flex" (less pressure on exhale/regular pressure on inhale) - VERY NOISY, even with the flex feature off. My wife has been complaining about the excessive noise . . . and then I remind her what the snoring was like . . . 'nuf said.
Thanks again.
