I was thinking of exercising (walking) in the mornings after I eat early. Would that mess me up?? My levels are around 120 when I wake up. Then I eat, and walk.

It sounds like a perfect time to exercise. I happen to do mine at night but as long as we do it it is all good! What are your levels after your walks? Have you been monitoring that? When I did it really got me excited about the benefits of exercise.:)

People can have all sort of ideas about the best time to exercise, but the best time is when you can exercise and actually do exercise. If morning is the best time for you, just do it (unless your blood sugar is way too high (over 250) which it is not).

As said above anytime that you exercise is a good time. I don't think there is a good or bad time. I usually go out for my rides early in the morning. I have found though that the afternoon rides I am much stronger. My times and mph is better in the afternoon vs morning rides. That being said Ihave the most difficult time with my BS in the morning so the early morning rides sure do help that.

Anytime is good as said above, just monitor your levels during exercise (especially until you're familiar with that they do) so they don't drop too low & cause your liver to dump glucose into your system.

Because of changes in body temps and enegry levels, you may not work out as hard in the morning as you would in the afternoon, but as someone who just skipped her afternoon workout because she got busy, I agree that the time that is good is when you can do it. Plus, doing it in the morning is supposed to raise your metabolism all day long and it definitely wakes you up.

Please tell me when should I exercise? I still have some confusion about as to when to exercise.
Can I exercise with sugar levels of 180?
Waht are the limits of sugar levels within which I can exercise?
Please guide. I am trying to get my A1c undere control.
Thanks

The majority of people who exercise consistently do so early in the day. It is easier to form the exercise habit through morning exercise.
• Fewer distractions and schedule interruptions.
• Can make time for exercise by getting up a bit earlier.
• Raises your heart rate and metabolism to burn more calories earlier in the day.

For me, as stated in my post above, is that the best time to exercise is when you can find the time to do it and actually do it. Even if I tell you that the best time is in the morning or in the evening, if you have to commute 2 hours to and from the office, for example, then it will not work and your best bet is likely lunch time, unless your office hours are from 1 pm to 5 pm. In addition, you may have preference as to time. There are also factors that may make it easier for you to exercise at certain times of the day and not at other times. So, the best time is when you can do it.
As far as I know, you can exercise with a BG of 180. What is dangerous is if your BG is over 250 (altough I also read that the cut-off is 200). If your BG is too low (let's say 50), please don't exercise.
Good luck to you.

I find it more effective if I exercise at night just before I go to bed. I sleep better and wake up with a better BG reading.

Why is it dangerous to exercise with BG over 200? What happens within our bodies?

I don't know what would be best for maintaining good bg control..I usually exercise and thEN eat..just because right after I eat sometimes....if I've made any mistake in my insulin calculations my sugar might spike and exercise is not safe during a high reading (this leads to development of ketones)...
Another random reason why eating after exercise is good is because exercising spikes your metabolism and after exercise, your metabolism stays high...so you burn more calories from your meal than if you had eaten it before...(good for any diabetics who are trying to lose weight) I believe your body also utilizes nutrients from your food more efficiently this way.

If your BG is higher than 250 (or 200 or 240 based on some other sources I've read), you have to check for ketones (usually a urine test), as a high level of ketones is a sign that you don't have enough insulin going around in your body to address your blood sugar. Exercising with a high level of ketones raises the risk of ketoacidosis which is a serious condition. If you have a high level of ketones, you have to wait until your ketone level goes down before exercising.

It isn't dangerous to do exercise over 200. It *can* be dangerous to do them over 250, if you are insulin dependent because of the risk of DKA.
Remember, there is a difference between ketosis (the presence of ketones after moderate exercise or while on a high protein diet), and DKA. Ketosis isn't dangerous.
I recently started doing the routines that can be found at nowloss.com. The site is free, and the guy has videos all over youtube as well. They have been easy to follow so far. :) I'm hoping to get some really good results body wise. I've already reduced my insulin resistance quite a bit. :)
EDIT: Just to clarify... typically it isn't dangerous to exercise just because you are over 200. YMMV. I usually want to be over 200 when I start exercising, so I have sugars available to meet my immediate needs.

I also take my walks after my morning meal (3 slices of roasted turkey breast on a slice of multi grain bread) , about to go now.
That electronic cigarette thing in your signature looks like its worth a try. Have you used it long term?

I was told the best time for me to exercise is after dinner. I am trying to drop weight, and I have higher bg in the am. Not sure if this is working, but will keep it up until my next appointment. I go back to work in a week after the summer of being off (oh, the joys of working in public education). :) I am concerned that I will not find the after dinner times as easy.

Question:
I have been told (and read previous posts) that the best time to exercise is around 120-200, but does this also apply to more rigorous exercises (like mountain biking and mx).
Also,
When is the best time to exercise when you want to focus more or gaining muscle and weight rather than lose weight? Before or fter meals? I like to take my rides in the evenings, so before or after dinner?
Thanks

Most of my vigorous exercise (stationary bike) is in the evenings, after dinner.
