I know that meters are not 100% accurate and have a varience to actual. However , I have been having some problems controling my BG lately or having a prob with the meter.

I have been on Metformin for a year. I am insulin resistant, very overweight, but procrastinating on resolving this before it turns to T2.

After getting my eating under control and back to low carb, my BG readings were good. But I took one today after a greek salad and it was 313. I drank a glass of water and 10 min later tested again and it was 139. How can this be??

Well, I'd just say it's likely your meter that's the main culprit, neither a glass of water or a greek salad really is that strong a hypoglycemic agent. ;) As for the metformin, I haven't heard of it having that kind of effect, but I don't take it, so I'll leave it to others to make a comment if it applies.

Probably worth thinking about what you really were. 313 is pretty high... ketosis most likely kicking in, possibly getting lethargic, peeing a lot, feeling off, that kind of thing. Did you feel that way? Can you normally feel side effects when you are that high? If you've been under good control lately, I'd have thought you might feel some effects with a high like that, but you're the one in the know when it comes to your body.

Anyway, when I suspect that my meter is not being accurate (well, as accurate as we expect) I pull out a backup to double check. Do you have another meter? It's a great idea, especially if you lose one. If you don't want to get other strips, get the same brand of meter.

Some people have experienced having something sweet on their fingers that messes up the meter results. I agree it sounds like a meter problem, instead of a bg that drops so fast.

Thanks Jan and Subby. I am kinda freaking out. Today I was out shopping and started to feel really dizzy.

I checked my BG this morning and it was 149. High for me in the morning. I took my 1000 mg of metformin with breakfast (2 scrambled eggs, 1 turkey saus) and after feeling dizzy later took my BG again. It was 107. So, not sure what the dizziness is about? took blood pressure, that was good.

I think it would be a good idea to get another meter too. That is interesting about having something sweet on your fingers cus on reading was on my thumb (high) and then later on index finger (low).
