I've been working out on my own since January. For a while I thought I was doing pretty well. So far I have lost around 35lbs (I thought it would be more but I think I am gaining muscle).

I am now at the point where I am getting kind of bored. I feel like I am doing the same thing all the time. The good thing is, is that I am still motivated. However, I think my body is getting used to the workout. I have tried changing up my routine but sometimes I feel kind of clueless.

Anyway, I am thinking of getting a personal trainer. How many of you guys have or had a personal trainer? Was it a good experience? Did you go once, realize it was horrible and then never go again?

I know the trainer and gym can make the difference of whether or not the experience is worth the money. What I am interested in is getting anyone's personal experience.

Thanks

2 years ago I was in the same place- bored with my workouts, feeling like I was losing steam, etc.. A few friends and I got together and found a trainer that did some small group sessions outside in the park near where we worked. We all had a great time. Working out together was fun and he had us doing all sorts of things that we would never have done on our own. Eventually I switched to 1-1 sessions, but I am still working out with him consistently.

I'm in great shape and way more motivated even when working out on my own but most importantly, I'm in way better control of my blood sugar. Being type 1.5, I always struggled with exercise and control- usually skyrocketing during a workout and then plummeting at some point after. My trainer took this on as his challenge and helped me to figure out the trends based on what my numbers were during and after specific workouts. Now, he knows where my heart rate needs to be during my workouts and I know what the timing needs to be for my insulin.

If you have questions and want to contact him, he also does some online fitness counseling. He can put together workouts or give some advice.
Let me know... and good luck! I promise, it's worth the money- you'll feel better.

Well worth it! I've used them off and on for a long time, right now am in a group that works with two trainers. Lots of moving around, cardio incluced with weights. Just make sure to still get your cardio in, it's easy to slack, but that is what really makes a fitness difference, doing both.

Thanks for the input. I think I am going to try it out. My gym has a promotion that you get a free session with a trainer to see if you like it.

If you can afford a personal trainer, go for it. You don't have to have him/her all the time. Make sure you check potential trainer's credentials before hiring.

Have you tried checking fitness magazines (Fitness, Shape, Self come to mind) or their websites. They have different interesting programs and moves that you may find interesting.

How much would a session with a personal trainer cost?

At the local YMCA they are offering 5 sessions for $100, plus you get two free ($40 value) if purchased together.

this is what i did, i thought to myself wich of my friends is the strongest, and i got alot of em, so i asked my body building friend to help me out. and let me train with him he said no problem. I think a good work out parter is just as good as a personal trainer, just someone to motivate ya that pbviously knows what they are doing, so that would include cardio, now if u dont have a friend in really good shape to work out with then perhaps a trainer is right for you.
