I am a type 2 diabetic and I was diabetic prior to pregnancy. I am 20 weeks pregnant with twins and recently my sugars have gone completely out of control. I am also having extreme headaches. The only thing I have changed is an addition of 1000mg or calcium. Is there any data on calcium causing problems or can someone be intolerant to calcium? Thanks for your help!

Hi, pokerqueen!

Welcome to the forum.

I don't know about calcium supplements, but I know that just being pregnant can mess wth your BS levels.

Perhaps someone else here will be able to answer about the calcium supplements.

Yeah given the fact that some people are diabetic only during pregnancy, I would think that it is not the calcium, but the changes of pregnancy that are causing the BG changes.

If it helps, I take calcium supplements (usually calcium citrate, but sometimes calcium carbonate) and notice no BG effect.
