I am due my diabetic eye test on the 22nd June - it will be my third test since diagnosis :)

Wanted to ask if there is ANY TIPS for not getting a headache after it ???

I think its the drops they use that do it but I get a severe migraine everytime :o

Is there anyway to avoid the headache

I have only had one test and did not have that problem. But perhaps it's due to the pupils being dialated and so more light entering the eye. Bring a pair of dark sunglasses and wear them after the test, it might help. Why don't you call the optho before the test and mention it to him/her and see what they suggest.

If this is just a regular eye exam, you can just have a retinal scan and they don't need to use the drops that dialate your eyes. I have opted in the past for retinal scan.

If you are in for a look after being diagnosed with retinopathy, they will dialate your eyes. I would suggest very dark glasses and possibly a driver for your trip home.

I hate having my eyes dialated.

It's definitely worth asking ahead of time, I think that there is more than one type of drops for dilation. Sorry to hear about the migraines, I have never suffered from one, but have seen how terribly some people do.

This is for the normal eye test plus the retinal photographs they do once a yr here in the UK :(

I wear glasses anyway due to eyesight issues but I hate the drops they use here, but after calling the place I goto its apparently is linked to the fact I over-react to the drops they use :o

They are going to get in a 2nd type of drops for me (thanks for making me phone them) but if I still react to these then they will need to get even weaker drops made/or water down the ones they have

I am glad I asked here now :D I have also bought some clip on sunglasses for my normal glasses

I had my first dialation today. I experienced some minor pain due to the muscles dialating. Have you spoken to your eye dr?

Just been for eye test and now they use 1% drops not 0.5% drops, apparently thats what is recommended now for the retinography photos :(

Got a vile headache, twice as bad as last couple of yrs - I hate being diabetic

Plus I have to pay out an extorinate amount of money for new glasses (NHS voucher only pays £36 now) :o

Least I have NO RETINOPATHY :D
