I've been diagnosed 2 months ago and haven't done any exercise since. I also didn't have any serious hypos during this time. Many 60's and a few 50's but the only thing that happens is my hands shake a little so I don't even treat them.

Yesterday my BG was at 95. I ate 100g of carbs (took the same amount of insulin I normally take) and started working out about 40 mins after that. In the middle of workout I almost passed out, everything went black and I almost couldn't hear. Don't know how low I went cause I didn't have my testing device.

So now I don't know how to manage this. I'm guessing I should take less insulin, but how much? Should I not eat before workout (I don't think it's a good idea)? I'm totally lost, don't even know the right questions.

exercise lets your body use insulin more efficiently; how much more efficiently is different for every person and every workout

glad you are ok now!

just for comparison, when I am cycling for an extended period of time (2-7hrs) I will use about half the regular amount of insulin while eating much more than usual. If I wanted to eat normal I would cut down to about 25% the normal level of insulin.

Exercise is going to lower your BG.............. so, cut back on the insulin if you plan to work out. Or, test your BG an hour or 2 after your workout and THEN take the appropriate insulin.

Always treat your lows. You may go from one extreme to the other and you will feel way worse.

I always eat before excercise but I'll take 1/2 the amount of insulin I would normally take. This works for me so I present it as an option. I've also set my pump to a temp basal (70%) 2 hrs before a work out. Another option I use since I'm on a pump. If I use this option I bolus as normal.

Coming here and asking was a great start. keep them coming.
