My son is allergic to all nuts. He's not diabetic, but I was just thinking the other day how difficult my life would be if I was Type 1 AND allergic to nuts.
A huge portion of my diet is nut/seed related.
Just a side question: I was allergic to eggs before I was diagnosed type 1. When I was diagnosed, the egg allergy disappeated. I was 7 at the time. Coinicidence? Autoimmune weirdness? What do you think?
Reading the headline, my first thought was "autoimmune weirdness!" So I agree.

Unrelated IMHO. Im allergic to fish (not shellfish, just fish with gills) and even touching fish then putting finger in mouth will put me into anaphylactic shock. But, its not because Im diabetic. Its because Im allergic to fish :p
I have a friend who is allergic to citric acid. Go read your labels and weed out everything with citric acid and see what you have left hehe

Citirc Acid!!??? That would be horrible. That would be as bad as being allergic to water. It's in everything.

I am a bit puzzled, since technically true allergy has to do with an antibody response to protein. Citric acid should not have any protein associated with it ... ? (Peanut oil, for ex., has small amounts of protein still in it ...). Or is citric acid something that binds to proteins and aggravates allergies ... ?

Acid allergies arent so uncommon. Allergens dont have to be proteins. No protein in bee stings either...and yet...

My daughter has Type 1 and is allergic to pine nuts. We discovered the pine nut allergy when she was about 7, and she was diagnosed with diabetes just before she turned 9.
She can eat peanuts (which are ground nuts; not tree nuts), and is not allergic to almonds or hazelnuts, but we don't know about any other tree nuts. The allergist we consulted said she'd have a 50% chance of being allergic to some other tree nut, so she doesn't want to take the chance by eating them.
Luckily, pine nuts are expensive and not used in many dishes in the USA. She has to watch out, though, with Italian, Middle Eastern, and Korean foods, where pine nuts are popular.

This is a topic not too far from my mind at all times!
My son is severely allergic to all nuts. Really, I shouldn't even keep them in the house, but truth be told, I eat them when he goes to sleep. I abstained from them for a while when we first found out he had the allergy, but, boy is it hard not to eat nuts when you've already cut out all the other stuff.
I, too, think it's autoimmune weirdness! I actually talked to our allergy dr last week and he said that my diabetes has nothing to do with my son's allergy...not sure why, but I think it does.
Until proven otherwise, I guess it's all a matter of opinion. :)
