Hi everyone,

I recently found my daytime numbers creeping up (my HbA1c is normally around 6) so decided to take a couple of extra units of long acting and adjusted my meal time insulin and this seems to have done the trick.

Im having problems early morning. I usually go to bed at around 7 - 8 (120 - 140) and wake up around 5 - 6 (90 - 110) This has always worked for me. Now Im finding my numbers are anywhere between 7 - 9 when I get up, and always higher than bedtime. Am I going low in the night or could it be Dawn phenonomen?

Also anyone any ideas as to why insulin requirements should suddenly change when nothing whatsover (I think lol) has changed ie, diet, excercise, stress etc etc.

Thanks

Sarah

Hi, Sarah.

Could be a couple of things. Illness can cause higher numbers, but you say they've been creeping up, so if it's not a sudden thing I'd say this isn't as likely. The other thing is that diabetes is progressive & our bodies just change over time. That's the "wonderful" thing about diabetes - the only thing about it that stays consistent is that it's inconsistent.

Blood sugars rising in the morning is a normal thing, even for non diabetics. OK, it's a little higher than normal, but nothing to really worry about I think. But if you could get it back to your 5-6 all the better.
