My grandma was dx with T1 around the age of 50. Does this mean, she is 1.5 instead? And is 1.5 hereditary?

For what it's worth, probably yes, T1.5. Doesn't make much difference to what she has to do to control it, though.

Hereditary? I'm not sure, and don't think anyone else is either! Have a look at this thread: http://www.diabetesforums.com/forum/type-1-diabetes/40108-what-causes-diabetes.html

A T1 diagnosis in an adult is not always 1.5.... but depending on how long ago it was, it's hard to say if the right tests were done to determine the difference.

After a point it does not matter though.. a T1.5 is just a slower-developing T1... in the end they're both the same.
