Hi all,I have had type 1 diabetes for 18 years and I am considering going on a pump...I will be seeing my Dr. next week to approach him about the subject...I'm just kind of scared about all of the changes that could go along with this..I currently take Lantus every 12 hours plus use the humulog pen at meal times.I've seen an advertisement about the Omnipod delivery system. Is any one familiar with that,or have an opinion about it? just trying to get some info..Thanks for listening...Patti

I am currently on MDI therapy myself but I have thought about the OmniPod too. My doctor gave me a "dummy" omnipod to try out and see if I'd like it. I'm sure you could go on the website and request one. I haven't tried my sample out yet.

Yes, you can get a dummy pod from the website.
I have used the Animas 1250, MM 722 and the pod. I myself like the pod the best. I like not having any tubing and wearing it just on my arms.
Do a search on the forum, their are a few large threads that have video as well on the pod.

Thanks for the info..I just signed up to receive the "dummy pod "..it should arrive in 2-4 weeks...I am looking forward to finding out all that I can about it.I still need to check with my insurance company about the coverage, and how costly it will actually be...Patti

Patti,
I started pumping 4 years ago and at the time I had diabetes for 18 years. I was also taking Lantus twice a day and Humalog for meals & corrections. I could never get good control with injections and still wasn't sure about getting a pump since I knew nothing about them. The CDE really pushed it on me and now I'm very glad that she did. I use Minimed, not OmniPod, but all pumps do the same thing and can give you much finer control than injections.

I have Type 2 diabetes and was on MDI before I went on the OmniPod in 12-2008. I've found that since starting on the Pod that I use approximately 33% less insulin and my daily average is much better. Just wanted to wish you the best.
