There is an opposite condition to diabetes. It is called Hypoglcemia. This (http://www.emedicinehealth.com/low_blood_sugar_hypoglycemia/article_em.htm) is a condition of low blood sugar.

Someone here may have a better answer.

My sister suffers from low blood sugars if she waits too long to eat. Her doctor does an A1C at the time of her annual physical, and has told her that often people who have frequent episodes of low blood sugar do end up with T2 diabetes in the future.

My sister has had this problem since she was a teen (she's 40 now). I never had a problem with this myself, yet i'm the one diagnosed with diabetes first.

I don't know how long (if ever) that it takes to turn into diabetes. Hopefully, my sister will never have to deal with it.

I would think though that living a healthy lifestyle may keep it at bay a long, long time.

I don't know how the fact that your mom had gestational diabetes would affect you.....I have read that people who have gestational diabetes do have a greater likelihood of developing T2 at some point later in life. At any rate, a T2 does tend to run in families, so do your best to remain healthy, eat a good diet, keep your weight in the normal range, and hopefully you'll never have to worry about it.
