Who has days like this: I woke up at 179,which is not good, went to work at 4:30am, tested at about 7 and was at 218 DP maybe, it doesn't usually happen???? I corrected with 5 units humalog, tested at 8:45 was at 96 at a breakfast bagel sandwich which I guessed at 40g of carbs, took 5 units humalog again along with my usual 23u of Levemir. I then dropped like a rock to 30:eek: and had no obvious symtoms:confused: Ate a snack and skyrocked to 242 all by 11:30am And the day has continuod this viscious cycle, LOW HIGH LOW HIGH. I just need to know that everyone else has days like this because it's killing me.....

Yep, beem there. Ok, so I'm not on insuling but I have had days like that. Blame it on the aliens and put is behind you is all I can suggest. Some days our bodies decide to throw a curveball and mess with us. it's not at all unusual.

I would not be that serious about it "...killing me..." I don't know how long you have been using insulin, but in the 35 years of adult diabetes that I have used insulin, there are many many days like you say, I'm sure - I just have no measurement of what it was those days. Today, like you - I take the lantus in the morning. I don't know DP but I would guess you are in a seeming unending cycle of high. It can last days, or weeks - but, it will end. Don't worry about it, just take more insulin in small increments so you don't hit 30 again. 30 is awful when you don't expect it.
Take it easy.

I did not mean It was literally killing me;) although it can not help me much either lol. I have been type 1 for 25 years now, but have recently "within the past year" been really aggressive with my treatment, I acheived a 6.2 A1c on NPH in april. I recently switched from NPH to Levemir because of spikes and several hypos in this agressive treatment, and have so far seen good results in my ability to control hypos and what not "except today". Days like this are rare for me, but when I get them, it drains me mentaly.... Sorry to rant and rave, just needed to vent a little:)

I am glad that days like this are rare for you - and for me.
Rant anytime you want - I believe, that is what DiabetesForums is all about - a forum for us to vent our frustrations with this insulin game, and assist others and encourage others. Rant on.

Yup, been there, done that. I won't eat bagels anymore. They are just as bad on my sugars as pancakes are. :( I love 'em, but they do not love me... so I just say no.
I hope you find your chi soon.

Yup. I think it's safe to say all IDDs have them now and then.

Hello
Yup. I have diabetes=i have bad days too! we all do! i think the problem that started your chain of events could have been the correct bolus being too high - if you corrected at 7 and your BG had hit where it wanted to be at 845, you would still have a lot of active humalog on board (it takes at least 3 to 4 hours to get out of your system), so if this happens again, you might think to yourself that at that point you probably have around 2 units of unused insulin on you (ie you probably only needed three to correct) and subtract this amount from what you bolus for the bagel?
also, in my experience on these morning seesaws, many things can cause me to spike ridiculously high in the morning, and quite often it happens that i will spike high but come down to the right place. if this sounds obvious or condescending i apologise, but there are times when i have given myself a hypo by panicking at the 2 hour point by a reading of 220 when i would have been down again within a few hours
isnt diabetes fun?!

Yep. The totally random, unpredictable numbers. HATEHATEHATE. The other forum I'm on blames the "diabetes fairy" for those days. Just take a deep breath and keep moving :)
