My dog wakes me up when I go hypo in the night.
Mind you I wasn't to sure about his idea of treating my hypo the other night he pushed one of his bones in my face :D

Was your dog trained to do that, or does he/she just do it naturally?

Dogs are so awesome, but my 3 dogs aren't sensitive to the whole hypolycemia thing.

If I started smelling like bacon when my BG went low, THEN they would be a huge help. But as it stands, not so much.

One of my dogs has woken me up before when I was low and sleeping. He is not consistant. Maybe he just wants a cookie? :T

If anybody is considering getting a dog, please please please research the organization first. There is an organization here in Missouri that is being sued by the Attorney General because they have very questionable practices. Heaven Scent Paws does not properly train the dogs and will not take back dogs or refund money for dogs that fail to perform as promised.

I have met two girls who had dogs from them and were happy, but with their history and the current lawsuit I would be loathe to use them. You can check out oganization on better business bureau.

Hi Jim, He has always done it right from the day he came to live with me as a 13 mth old overgrown puppy. He only tells me at night though and as soon as my blood sugar reaches 2.6mmol. That number is the trigger for him. Day time I am fully hypo aware.

a few months ago I met a guy in the supermarket with his helper dog.
The dog was trained to alert if he was going low or close to a siezure.
Good doggy.

I think MO just needs better laws regulating sales of ALL animals -- let alone service animals. This state ahs problems. There is an org in KS that is wonderful though -- our school's therapy dogs come from there!

Darned if I can recall the name though ...
