As you may or may not know, recently I've had a bout of pneumonia and I'm now on antibiotics. Today I decided to actually research one of the ones I've been put on, Tavanic, and this is what I found.

Levofloxacin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tavanic)

Levofloxacin is associated with a number of serious and life threatening adverse reactions as well as spontaneous tendon ruptures and irreversible peripheral neuropathy. Such reactions may manifest long after therapy had been completed and in severe cases may result in life long disabilities. Hepatoxicity has also been reported with the use of levofloxacin.

4/27/2009
Issuance of a Medication Guide and revisions to include new safety information. The FDA has determined that levofloxacin poses a serious and significant public health concern, requiring the distribution of a Medication Guide. However the Medication Guide does not include any Black Box Warnings.[

Should I be worried?

I think that you should like to have Neuropathy is no holiday. Not that I have this as we all know all to well that this is associated with diabetes.

I did not know you had pewnammonia. Hope you are getting rid of it!!!

As I recall though levofloxaxin is pretty fast-acting, so you only get liek 2 days' worth? Many of the floxins have a track record of scary side effects.

I took norflox once for a UTI and it was like 2 pills and OUT. Hopefully you did not a script for 10 days???

how are you doing?

I don't think i'd worry about taking it for a short-term course. I have taken it myself w/o problems.
We use Levaquin/levofloxacin quite regularly in our urology office, as we've found it to be quite effective in treating UTI, and patient's seem to remember to take it as its just once a day.

We frequently use both the 500mg and 750 mg, usually 10-14 day course.

The most common side-effects our patients have are more GI-related and insomnia.

If it's still a matter of concern, i'm sure theres another antibiotic you could take for your pneumonia. Hope you're feeling better soon.

ask your pharmacist and/or doc in regards to diabetes and this medication specifically...mention any sympotms you have had previously (ie...have u ever had neuropathy?)...i'd venture to say most every drug out there has a boat load of warnings...but just double check...
