Time to say hello. I don't have diagnosed diabetes but my brother does. When my fasting BG crept up to borderline I decided to buy a meter and discovered that with a sandwich and apple for lunch my BG would spike to 10 - 12 mmol (maybe 50g carbs). As I had a coronary bypass at the age of 40 (my brother was a little older when he had his bypass), 16 years ago and have had progressive deafness for the last 10 years I decided to become obsessional about my blood sugar control. Low carbing appears to have stabilised my hearing and the post meal spikes and prevents the mid afternoon dips but doesnt consistently lower my morning BGs which are frequently 6 rising to 8 mid morning whether I eat or not(and probably worsening over the last year or so).
I came here hoping to lurk and learn.
