Hi, my name is Tracy and I'm a type two diabetic...gosh that sounds like another organization! :D I was diagnosed about a year ago, but was told that I was borderline for about two year prior. My dad passed from complications from type two. He had three knee replacements (yes, we only have two...but he was special, really he was!) before he died. He had a massive staph infection from his last replacement which really went to work on his heart. I love my dad and he has been a strong influence on me (my super cool dad!). But I don't want to go through what he did. Therefore, it is time to 'git r done' as someone famous often says. I have too many questions and not enough answers. Although some of the answers are very easily given...such as take this pill, eat protein with your carbs and exercise. Now the why?, how much? and again how much? is of course missing. So I set out on a mission of discovery and found this site. As soon as I get my list of questions organized I will bombard the board with them! I thank you all in advance for extending my limited knowledge of this wretched disease.
Hi, Tracy, and welcome! Hope you learn a ton, here!
Welcome
You have the right questions. The answers are all here with a warning.
Diabetes is not your usual condition. It's not generic. Everyone of us is different. What works for one may not work for another. But ask questions. Use the search feature.
That's why in part our mantra is "TEST"
After a while it all sort of resolves itself to a livable life style.
Again,
Welcome

Welcome to the forums, sounds like you have great motivation. Ask lots of questions, you have found a really great place to get answers, help and support.
Do you test often, for me that's a key tool in controlling the best. Eat, test and learn as Art (who posted before me) has said in the past, and it's a mantra to live by.
Visit and post often.

I am taking 500 mg Metformin 1xday; 2.5 mg Glipizide 2xday, fish oil tablet 1xday, Lisinopril 10mg 1xday and baby asprin 1xday. We dropped to 2.5 mg Glipizide because I was having 3 or 4 lows every week (40's to 60's bg). It was wiping me out! But now my numbers seem to high.
When I was diagnosed my A1C was 7.2. I dropped to 6.1 and my last A1C was 6.3.
My bg's are alllll over the place. Sunday evening I had a reading of 340, then on Monday night I was at 66. This morning my fasting test was 162. Two hours after breakfast it is 241. All I had for breakfast was 2 very (1/3 cup of dry mix) small pancakes with 1 egg, 1/8 cup of sugar free syrup and 1/2 glass of milk. Total carbs: 46. Is my carb intake too high?
I try to walk to the bus stop during the week (a little over 2 miles round trip), but I can't say that I am very consistant with this goal...some mornings it is just too much to move in any speed other than turtle! I have made a committment that for the next twelve weeks that I will work on both diet and exercise. I am only going to take it one day at a time. I thought that I was doing well with the diet thing until I tested this morning (see numbers above). Any advice on the carb thing?
