I am still switching around my blood pressure meds. One of the ones I have taken for almost 3 months is the Lisinopril. It is an ace inhibitor, which I understand we should take. I have tried others and got the nagging cough. This one didn't for a while, but cough is back now. Are there any that don't have this side effect. Seems worse this time. Would a ARB be as protective of kidneys as the ace inhibitor?

Would also be interested in what blood pressure meds. some have tried and thought worked well.

I am on Benicar & have been for 3 years, I don't remember what I was on previously, but they made me cough also. No coughing with the Benicar. Good luck

Yes, ARBs do pretty much the same thing that ace inhibitors do (lowering blood pressure thus protecting kidneys), just different mechanics. I was on Lisinopril until I just couldn't take the cough any more (a coupla years) and was recently switched to Diovan (ARB).

I have been on Lisinopril (5 mg.) daily, since 11/08. I have yet to get "the cough." No side effects for me. Now that I know, should I start coughing, that's what might be the cause of it. Thanks for sharing. ;)

Another example of why this forum has been so helpful to me....

I hope you find the one that works best for you....:)
