Hi all

I'm relatively new to all this, misdiagnosed Type 2 in 7/07, started insulin in February this year and figured out I was LADA sometime in April. I've got my I:C ratios down to a pretty close range (1:10, 1:12, 1:17) but still notice a distinct variation in my numbers every few days. About 3 weeks ago I was at the beach for a few days had a dramatic fluctuation (I ate ravioli and didn't bolus and came out low!!), but that was probably due to the hotter weather. But since then I still find a few days where I'm running on the low side, even with lowering my basal by a point, then I go back to normal or a tad high.

Looking at your period of time as LADA on basal/bolus have you seen distinct periods of fluctuation? Dramatic or small? How long did they last?

My fluctuations happen in 3-4 days to a couple of week increments.

I have a "normal" and my fluctuations can swing up to 50 point averages on either side of that normal.

For example I can be "normal" and then one day wake up and be 30-50 points higher or lower than I run "normally". this will last from 3-4 days up to a couple weeks. Then, personally for me, it tends to swing all over for a couple of days and then come back to "normal"

I vote for most frustrating thing EVER!!! :T. Each time I think... is this it? is the honeymoon over, or hmm, maybe they were wrong and now I don't have diabetes cuz my numbers don't budge no matter WHAT I eat!

I am being all spazzy this morning. So I hope that makes sense....

So far, my fasting oscillates on a 2 - 3 week period -- I suspected test strips, or diet, or estrogens, but now do not. It is about a 20 - 30 point difference. SO far ....

Ohana, do you switch your basal or alter your I:C ratio for those periods, or are you still ok in target range so don't have to change anything?

Zoelula,

I don't have a basal insulin yet. I am getting really close to adding one I think...

My morning numbers have been creeping ever so slowly from mid 80's to mid to high 90's over the past year. When I have a swing I can have morning numbers in the 60's or 130's.

My after meals are averaging right at 140... but during a swinging event it can be hard to keep it above 100 or below 160. I do change my mealtime insulin depending on the swing. I have gone several days not needing insulin, and other times I am taking around twice what I would take on a normal day...(but its obviously still not enough because I am averaging 160.) ;)

Does that answer your question?

OIC, Ohana. So you are on bolus only for now. Do you alter your I:C ratio for those swings or just estimate and add a unit for bolus?
How about people that have been LADA for awhile? Do you see swings as well?
