I have to admit to having a weakness for certain foods. I have to have my rice with Asian foods and I love baked potatoes but I cannot resist one thing. I can't resist a Cream Puff. Yes I know that they are really bad for me so I limit my self to one but give me one with a hot cup of black coffee and I am in heaven.

Now that I admitted my weakness does anyone else have one or am I alone in my failure.

Are you talking about the little bitty cream puffs you can buy frozen? Those don't seem to be that bad, if you're only eating one:

The scariest part of that label is that 5.3 grams of carbs is described as 2% of the daily recommendation!

You are not alone and you are NOT a failure!
I know I eat things I shouldn't even look at. And some days I do better then others.

No, you are not alone. :) I still have a weakness for MANY things I used to eat before diagnosis a year ago. I don't give in to them all but a few I do... but now occasionally. SF Dilly Bars from DQ, popcorn at the movie theater, and oatmeal cookies, the crunchier the better.

I have really toned down the bad foods I used to eat and replaced them with better choices, but I do have a familiar treat from time to time the exercise afterwards.

Nope, I mean the big ones that you find in a good bakery or restaurant.

Nope, I mean the big ones that you find in a good bakery or restaurant.

By luck of the draw, my cravings--a good, meaty burger, for example (which I order without a bun), pesto, seared ahi tuna, grilled salmon--tend to be more friendly to my diabetes than other cravings might be. As long as I don't overdo the portions (but a half-pound burger is not too big), I can indulge without spiking my blood sugars. I haven't even had to give up chocolate--I have grown to prefer the unsweetened baking stuff.

The experiences of other family members--my grandfather, who went blind and died of complications from diabetes, my uncle, who lost a leg, my father, who developed cardiovascular disease (and, probably, a tendency to compulsive behavior)--have made me somewhat protective of my beta cells. I don't know if there is a tipping point in the number of functioning beta cells below which I could not control my blood sugars with only diet and exercise, but if there is, I don't want to reach it.

_____________
* It's not that I have an iron will; it's that my desire for foods that are not friendly to my BGs does not compare to my fear of complications. When I was on a low-fat diet to help lower my cholesterol, I allowed myself monthly indulgences in burgers and pizza. With blood sugar, it's different for me.

Warm, soft chocolate chip cookies.

Haven't had a whole one since dx, but I stole a bite from my sister's this afternoon. :o
