Ok...anyone else get really high BG from cheerios? I ate a bowl thinking it was ok...and got a BG of 268 2 hours later. yikes! Wont be doing that again.

2nd question....does anyone find that if you inject insulin in the same general area for an extended period of time it stops having the effect it should?

no, but only because I know cereal is going to spike my sugar levels and I use more insulin... :badme:

and yes. definitely. I've changed my pump site for this reason plenty of times. Even when I think the spot should be pretty clear, sometimes it just doesn't absorb as well, and after 20 years, I imagine it's because there's some kind of scar tissue there... :)

that's just me.

I love cereal [because it's easy and convenient], but I have to avoid it. :)

Jojo, with the injection sites, yes this can definitely happen. But at the same time other things can occur to mean that insulin dosage becomes insufficient. The best bet is to rotate your sites between a few you know work. If you do that, not only do you hopefully avoid site problems, but you can discount that in the list of factors that might mean your insulin requirement has gone up (either temporarily or more permanently).

You didn't mention milk. I can't eat cheerios without milk and milk shoots my BG through the roof quickly. So I don't eat cheerios much any more. I also find that with any high carb meal, I need to add extra insulin above and beyond my normal ratios. For a really heavy carb meal, I will add 50% extra insulin over what I might normally need.

Lots of art to the science of treating diabetes.

you may want to check out hood calorie countdown....it is in the milk section in a carton and a low carb beverage made from milk products....they have a chocolate one that i find really good...i love it heated when it is cold...and you can use hood in baking for lower carb puddings and such....i find it a great alternative
