I would like to start off, thanks to anyone that replys. I really appreciate it.

My old health insurance (Premiera Blue Cross), cost to much so we decided to cancel it. My family and I are looking for another good health insurance company that is cheaper, but still provides good insurance like instead of paying over $400 a month. We pay like $400 for 3 month supplys. I have applied for DSHS and got rejected. I am looking for some program to help pay for my diabetes. Currently I have no health insurance.

Again, thanks for your time and help. I really appreciate any help.

Thanks!

If you are talking about private health insurance then you may be out of luck. I'm sorry to say that if you have diabetes you will find it very, very difficult to get private insurance. It shouldn't be a problem to join group coverage through your job if it's offered. Another major problem is lapse of coverage. If you're uninsured for 63 days or more and then you do finally get new insurance they can hit you with a pre-existing condition clause and nothing will be covered (as far as diabetes stuff goes) for a year.

$400 isn't pocket change but it's nothing comapred to not having insurance. I'm lucky to have insurance through my job and I pay half of the monthly premium and my job pays half. The month;y premium for a single person is just over $400 right and now and will increase next month. If I had to pay out of pocket for everything I'd be spending close to $1,000 a month (diabetes + asthma meds, not even including doctors/labs) . For me, insurance is worth it.

Some individual companies have plans to help pay for supplies. I think there's a Sticky thread somewhere on the forums about it.

Also, don't forget, if you *do* find health insurance, they may have a pre-existing conditions clause that might enable them to not pay anything for your diabetic supplies, at least for a period of time. If it's not too late, I'd keep the coverage under the plan you have until you know if you can get something else.

Once you get a chronic condition you are a liability and not a risk - you aren't on the actuary tables any more because you definitely have the condition. The premium will be what it costs them to cover the condition (supplies and doctors) and their associated handing costs, plus the normal insurance premium. Work it out but if that number is greater than $400 (and I reckon it will be) then do not move because it will be *very* difficult to do better.

If you find a company prepared to accept you for less than $400 read the small print *extremely* carefully.

your insurance costs you 400 dollars a month, and you pay 400dollars every three months for supplies? I just need to know that I read your post right, or is it company insurance, and your supplies cost 400 dollars every 3 months. I'm just trying to clear the water here a little.
