So a few weeks ago, I was pacing and wearing sandals and cracked the **** out of my pinkie toe on a box. This toenail, to be frank, also has that thick-nail fungus issue that my podiatrist didn't think was worth giving me a prescription. So I didn't actually crack the toenail, but it separated just a bit from the toe. I hobbled my butt out of the English office with my toe wrapped in paper towels and went to see the school nurse (one of the perks of being a teacher, I guess), and she said there's a likelihood I might lose the toenail.
It stopped bleeding quickly, and stopped hurting the next day, so I forgot about it. But I've since stubbed that toe a few more times, kinda badly tonight. And when I really looked at it, there was a distinct separation between toe and toenail. I wiggled it and I *think* it wiggles like a just-barely-loose-tooth. Of course, I'm the same person who thinks stray hairs on my arm are spiders, so it IS possible I'm freaking and overreacting.
So... how much trouble do you guys think I'm in? AND -- which would be worse? To let the toe disintigrate on its own (if thats whats going to happen) or have surgery when my sugars aren't fully controlled?
Argh. My podiatrist works out of the same office as my endo, and I see her Wednesday, so I guess I'll make an appointment, but I'm really worried.
