After 27 years of MDI, I finally bought my 1st pump. I ordered the Medtronic 522 with the CGM. I'm so excited about it but scared at the same time. I know it will be good for me, finally get my BS under control, but I'm worried about starting on the pump. When you started, did you get many low's? I'm so used to having BS reading of 15 to 25's that when I get down to 5-6 I feel so weak, and as you know, it's the worst feeling. I hate being low or feeling low because I eat everything I can get my hands on. And well that's not good for my BS or my weight :o
I know it's going to be alot of work and monitoring when I start the pump.
How long did it take you to feel comfortable with the pump?

Congratulations!! When I started pumping my numbers were running higher, but I had many many lows while on injections. As your BG gradually gets closer to normal you won't get that panicky feeling when you're in a normal range.

Some people take to the pump immediately and get their settings down right from the start. For me it took about 3 months before I finally decided that I had made the right decision. Many times I wanted to throw the pump against a wall or rip the infusion set out and go back to injections. I'm very glad that I stuck with it and now I wouldn't want to give it up.

I love my pump! You couldn't pay me to go back to injections. I love the basal rates (how you can vary them by time of day), the temp basals, and the wizard (again way easier to vary by time of day). It's also easier to bolus in public places (no looks about doing shots over dinner).

My only problem is the CGM. It is very easy to become reliant and forget its limitations. The lag kills me. My Drs think the CGM is God's gift to diabetics, and it certainly has helped my control. Congrats on taking the plunge! Hope it works out as well for you as it did for me :)
