Hello everyone,

I am new here.

Does anyone have any experience with Byetta for Type II Diabetes?

My endo just wrote me a perscription for this, but I am very leary of any time I have to take something new.

I looked it up and there are a bunch of lawsuits and warnings out there already about this drug. Its an injection, yikes anyway! Let alone the warnings.

I asked her if it was safe, and she said yes. But did fail to mention the FDA warnings, so I am concerned.

I don't know what to do as she is the DR, maybe I am just a chicken?

Does anyone have any experience with it?

Thanks,
SHelly

The injections don't hurt. 96% of the time you don't feel it. Try a 31Gauge 5MM Pen Needle. The medication does take an adjustment as the nausea was bad at first, got better and then got worse for a little while when I switched to the 10 pen. This is a link to a forum with lots of info from many long time users.

I took Byetta for a couple of years. It works great on post-meal #s, and the shots are a non-issue, much easier than finger sticks. I had the nausea the first week or so, but this didn't last. I only took the 5 mcg dose, never going to the 10 mcg dose as my blood sugars were good on the lower dose.

I stopped Byetta because of extreme constipation.

There are lots of Byetta threads here if you care to do a search.

Thank you both so very much!!!!

I really appreciate it.

I did a search online and it scared me with warnings and lawsuits so it has me freaked out. I'd love to talk to others who used it.

Thank you, I will do a search and check out the link.

Thank you very very much!!

Shelly :)

I am a recently dx type 2. I started using Byetta the end of May and really like it - particularly the appetite suppressing side effect. I've lost 15 pounds since I started on Byetta. I was leery of change, too but my levels have been wonderful on Byetta. It rarely gives me any problem. I've had a little nausea 2x. Once when I switched from 5 ml to 10 ml and once when I had a slice of greasy pizza for supper (which I shouldn't have had in the first place!)
