hi all ok i know that alot of people say that you cant go from reactive hypoglycemia to diabetic but i still have a ?. i have been checking my fasting morning blood sugar levels after a 12 fast & they have been 90 to 105 most of the time they are 100 to 105. this is something that just started they used to be in the 80s in the mornings. could this be a sign that i might be pre diabetic? i have been hypo for a while now doing pretty good with keeping it under control with my lowest so far (knock on wood) being 73. but my morning numbers has raised pretty fast i just woke up one morning & bam 105. any advice?

I'm not sure who's saying you can't go from hypoglycemic to diabetic, but they're wrong. I've actually been told that it's very likely to happen. Your fasting numbers are creeping up, so it's definitely something to keep an eye on.
Have you also been testing after eating?
The best idea for both hypoglycemics & diabetics is the same - limit the # of carbs you are eating to prevent wide swings. Test a lot. Consult w/your doctor.

I went from hypo to diabetic over a couple years.
then, my fastings went from 100, and 108 to over 160 in a year.
anything over 99 fasting is abnormal. nothing to freak out over.
but something to pay attention to. I, myself would do a 2 hr glucose at the PCP.
and keep in mind a meter has a 20 percent error rate.

100 and over is prediabetes.
and I think diabetes starts at 126.
however, I would just call my dr if your fastings stay above 100 cuz you may be able to stop the progression.

My question would be are you tracking carefully the full amount of carb intake. It might give you a clue as to what is causing the raise. Limited carbs, within reason, will for me at least keep numbers rather good, but if I stray too far off the limits I set I can see a jump rather quickly.
My experience, (which may not be everyones), is that by backing off the way I used to eat, which was very carb and fat heavy, I have seen a gradual reduction in most readings to a point where they are not as worrisome as they were when they were like yours, reaching the type II range now and then.
I would take it as a warning that I need to watch carefully what I am doing or not doing.
But as others have mentioned, I am no doctor, and consultation with a competent physician is recommended. I say competent because I have found where I live many are living in the days of 200 being a normal reading and a 7 AC1 is normal. I do what I have to do for me, which for now includes diet and exercise rather than medication which for so many around me seems to mean, "eat anything I want, I am taking my medicine". It shows too.

Although I never had a meter to test, I believe I had reactive hypoglycemia for about 10 yrs prior to dx. Even in my first year or two of dx, I struggled with it...especially in the morning.
Those days are over now.
It sounds like you're doing a good job of cutting carbs. Maybe it's time for a GTT.
Good luck!

Me, too ... I'd say, 16 yrs ago, when I had hypoT. I am sure I was at a low point in beta cell mass, but (mostly) succeeded in building them back up. Till now.

hi all so i tested 2 1/2 hours after eating today & it was 133 is that ok? i did go down to 108 about 1 hour 1/2 later. i am having alot of swings in my blood sugar is that normal? i looked up if blood sugar swings was normal for a non diabetic & it said that a healthy person doesnt really have many swings that it pretty much stays stable. i just had a A1C 4 months ago because of my hypo & it was normal at 5.4, so i really dont get why im seeing higher numbers than i did just 4 months ago, while i am eating alot better now. any advice?

Hi Alicia, I'm Hypo and been told that is basically the same as 'Pre-diabetic'. Told and research found that if we can't get our Hypo under control and BS regulated it can easily turn into diabetes as our body wears down.
About your waking/fasting BS being higher lately... are you sleeping okay? I find that if I wake in the night I usually have just experienced a crash. My body will do an adrenal rush to raise my BS (not conducive to sleep) and then when I get up I'm higher then my norm.
If this is a possibility, try a low glycemic snack before bed. May help your body maintain a more stable BS during the night. Sleep and exercise pattern very important for me, maybe for you as well?
Hope you find some answers soon.
