I am and always have been the kind of person who likes to state my intentions in writing. If I make plans or commitments in my mind, I tend to rationalize a way out of them.
So, I am making a commitment to not eat any processed sugar or flour for a year. I'll reassess at that time.
I figured I would go ahead and state my commitment here, at Diabetes Forums (why not, right?).
If you feel like joining me, feel free to post. Or if you have another commitment you feel like getting off of your chest, PLEASE do.
If not, please ignore my dramatic post and look elsewhere for something more interesting.
Have a great night!

I will eat healthy for the rest of my life. ZERO simple carbs, only complex carbs in moderate supply.

I really commend you for doing that, however and there is a however, with me,everytime I've ever made a "comitment in front of certain people(my husband) he won't let it rest. Now, all of us here ,luckily, understand what it is to make comitments, probably every other day. I know, personally that I struggle with "sticking with it" every day. I wish you luck and again, I commend you for what you are doing!

Rock on!
I'm 7th month into this same commitment, but not as formal or strict. I've had 12 slices of bread so far on occaisions where that was it for food like funeral receptions, none since May. One plate of pasta made it in. I've had the odd dessert, maybe 1 every three or four weeks - 3 ice cream, 1 strawberry shortcake, maybe 6 chocolate bars.
I'm intent on improving, so I'll join in too!

This is exactly why I felt the need to post it here. In my experience, expressing my commitments to my husband or family and then having their watchful eyes on EVERYthing I eat or do creates an unhealthy dynamic. Accountability is a great thing, but having people scrutinize you is not....my family is extremely supportive, by the way.
I have made many commitments and broken many commitments in my day. The lying to oneself has got to stop at some point. So, for me, it stops now. This is why I only prohibited sugar and flour from my diet and only for one year. I am not going to cut out ALL fruit or the occasional serving of brown rice. These kind of carbs do not cause me to crave more carbs. I eat them and move on. With sugar and flour (i.e. baked goods), I eat them and want more, more, more, more. The cycle never ends. So, they're out!
Broken promises to yourself are an extremely bad thing. Gotta keep it true and realistic.
I will never say never ... because I suspect if I completely forbid myself certain foods, I will obsess over them.
I ate a piece of bread, this week ... I may eat another in a week or so. I think for a long-run approach, this works better for me. As long as it does not become a slippery slope!
