hey just wondering if anyone else is doing this and how they're finding it. also is you have anything against it id love to know as well..

i've been using calorieking software to monitor my daily intake of carbs, fat, protein and fiber as well as total calories.

after i was diagnosed about three and a half months ago i followed a plan made by my dietician which involved eating carbs with every meal. maybe i made bad choices.. well i dont think i did, but i put on a few extra kilos than my natural weight before i was suffering from symptoms early on. i pretty sure i've stopped growing now, at 19.. so my goal weight is around 58-60 kilos. and i jumped up to 65.

so with calorieking, i had my daily intakes set at 110g carbs, 33g fat, 74g protein and 30g fibre. and my total calories for my exercise level and all that is at 1483.

what i'm curious about and am playing around with now is lowering my carbs quite a bit which is proving to work i think. so i changed my intakes to what i thought would be a good idea; 80g carbs (but the lower the better in my head), 33g fat (but the lower the better, but not as fattening as carbs in my head), protein 74g, fibre 30g and calories 1483 but the lower the better.

i seem to be losing half a kilo every few days which is nice. calorieking says that if i keep my daily intake as close to this as i can i will lose three kilos by the end of august and maintain it i guess, once im at my natural weight.

and i've also found the smaller doses of insulin have made my levels more predictable and steady. right now im about 63 kg. after one week.

however. last night and the night before i have had lows in the middle of the night which i think is because i didn't think to lower my night time insulin. tonight im experimenting to see if lowering it by two units will get me through the night ok.

does anyone else do something like this? i know it sounds ultra controlled. i guess it is but im that kind of person. its all or nothing with me! haha

From these intakes I'm reckoning your intake is sub 1000 kcalorie per day intake. When you say 33g of fat, do you mean saturated fat, or do you mean all types of fat?

I would suggest that 1000 kcalories per day is not sustainable in the long term.

It might also be the cause of your night time hypo - restriction of calorie intake and weight loss induce reductions in insulin resistance, and hence a lowering of insulin requirements.

You'll lose your muscles if you have too low kcal as well.

I'd say 2000 kcal should be enough, if you just work out a little, that'll cause you to lose fat and keep the muscle.

There is a formula for this, because it's not just going as low as possible on the kcal. You need to stay within a certain range for it to be optimal.

If you eat healthy low carbish food (100g carbs a day ish or less), you WILL loose fat.

Also take a break from this a few times a week. For example wednsday you can eat dinner so you'll get full. Then on saturday you can eat a little bit more the entire day. This really helps for morale and won't have a big impact on your dieting.

This is what we do when on a diet (bodybuilding).

I am a 1.5, meaning slow onset Type 1, and have been on oral meds only since Feb. and eating 60 - 100 g carb a day, or about 20% of my total calories.

I was finally diagnosed with LADA about 3 weeks ago. Because ... my A1c is down to 5.8. I think my "success made it harder for me to persuade my MD to test me for GAD-65 and C-peptide, frankly.

So now I am musing, was this a GOOD thing .... ? But, other than THAT, I have had huge success, on lower carb!

I'd agree with Viranth here, Let exercise be on this too as this promotes mussel stock and keep trim too. ;):D

ooh ok yeah. i guess im being pretty hard on myself its just i hate putting on weight.

i think i will try and exercise each morning too and eat a bit more. im pretty hungry most of the time haha. but im always hungry anyway.

and yeah i meant all fats. i try not to eat saturated fat. i can eat about 20g of fat in a day which is peanut butter, fish and maybe some from a piece of bread if i have any. it adds up fast!!

i guess im a real slacker about exercise. i love it but right now im so behind on study that im using all my time for that. i guess i should be getting up earlier to fir in a jog.

thank you for you comments!! sorry im still so ignorant four months in haha :egg:

Hey KT, Rome was not built in a day, So go and do something that you enjoy and in that enjoyment witch makes it all worth you while. bring some fast acting carbs with you so that will keep you away from a low. ;):D Q: Do you dance?

yes low carbing works. and I disagree with everyone, I think 1000-1300 calories a day is perfect. but this is going to depend on the person and what you eat.

low carbing will keep you numbers more stable.

Whatever works for you. I have never low carbed on purpose. I average about 180 to 200g of carbs a day. I have approx 2000 calories a day and have been doing this for years and maintain a weight of 140 to 145 for a 5'7" man. I do exercise which helps and on heavy exercise days I have consumed as many as 300g of carbs and 3000 calories. Everyone is different. You have to find your balance.

sounds like you are doing very well!

the only thing i will add is that eating a bit more fat isn't going to make you fat!

if you are hungry and need a snack try eating a hunk of cheddar cheese or similar. i know it is hard to believe - but it does work for some of us!

good idea! peanut butter is my best friend hahaha
ive been feeling bad about being hungry and snacking but i guess if its not carbs its not toooo bad. i find all this stuff really interesting though. food is definitely not recreation for me anymore it really is fuel for your body. i get really concerned when i see people eating badly nowadays. im like NOO you're putting the wrong fuel in your car its going to break it!!
