Hi-

I'm new here and I am posting for my husband who has been a type II diabetic for over 20 years. In February of 2009, he had a vitreous hemorrhage in his left eye. Since then, he has had two vitrectomies, two blood extractions, and laser surgery for glaucoma which was caused by the first vitrectomy. He is now one week since his second vitrectomy and still cannot see out of that eye. His doctor remains "cautiously optimistic" for sight returning (how much he does not know). My question is.......has anyone had success in vision returning after such a long time??

What do you mean by ?cannot see?" Is it black or blurry?

My vision was blurry for quite some time. I couldn't read with it until I stopped the drops at three months.

Extremely blurry. He cannot drive. He has been on five different eye drops for five months. I sure hope it's that.

I feel for your husband and yourself. I had diabetic retinopathy laser surgery about a year and a half ago. For those who don't know what that is, it is the leaking of small blood vessels in the retina that results in small hemorrhages also known as "floaters" or debris. I also went through several different types of eye drops after. I seemed to be allergic or something. Finally, after switching opthamologists, I got the right drops and my eyes finally healed. I had also suffered from photophobia, a hieightened sensativity to light. It is painful and blinding. I still have the photophobia, though the surgery seemed to relieve it a little, but now it is getting worse again. I "loose" words when they are against a white or light color background. I have to stare at something several times from a very close point to actually see what I am looking at when this happens.

Give your husband time to recoup and if you aren't getting the answers from your doctor I would ask another one for a second opinion. It took me quite a while for the blurriness to disappear after my surgery also but when the right med worked it seemed to help. Good luck to you both and keep positive.
