Hi guys

It's my first time writing to any forum, but I am pretty desperate and don't know what to do.

It all started about 2 months ago, when I was starting to feel extremely lightheaded (I do occassionally suffer from low blood sugar) so I thought it was that. Went to our OH Nurse, she took my blood sugar, it was 4.6 (I have eaten) and blood pressure 130/100. I have never suffered from High blood pressure so this was new to me. I have had a terrible headache which just did not want to disappear.

The lightheadedness, nausea, heart palpitations, headache continued for another week. I tested my blood sugar and pressure again a week later, blood sugar stayed at 4.6 - 4.6 and blood pressure ranged from 145/105 - 120/100. I went to see my dr and he reckoned it was because my blood sugar stayed low, that my body gave off adrenaline to up the sugar and that in turn pushed up the bp. He prescribed 500mg metformin once/day and ZIAK for the bp. I used it for +- 2 weeks, but the symptoms did not improve. Usually my sugar doesn't go above 5, even after I've eaten.

All of a sudden, it went up to 10.4 after I've eaten. And everytime I eat, doesn't matter what I eat, I feel extremely bad. Lightheadedness, heart palpitations, etc. He did a GT test, which confirmed that I have pre-diabetes with an after 2 hour reading of 8.5. He did insulin test, but that he said was fine, don't know if it was the c-peptide test.

Symptoms stayed. Saw a specialist, he tested kidneys, liver function (which was a bit high, but later tested fine again). an HBA1C test and ANA test which he says was all fine. He tested my sugar in hospital (but also gave me 850mg glugophage twice a day) and when they monitored it was fine. My blood sugar is really playing games with me, rising to about 8 after I've eaten and then falling to about 3.7 not even 2 hours afterwards, so now I'm really confused.

The specialist said that I had a virus that affected my liver. Although full blood count was fine. He did say that I am pre diabetic and that my gp must watch my sugar, because I most likely will get diabetes. I am not overweight (weight 52kg's) and do not eat a lot of fatty and refined foods. have suffered with sugar previosly so do cut down on carbs and sugar. Would the ANA test pick up LADA? If someone has an answer for me I'll really appreciate it, I am quite desperate at this stage.

greetings

I do not think ANA would pick up LADA.

Typically the antibodies found in LADA are: Islet Cell antibodies, Insulin Antibodies, and GAD-65 Antibodies.

Thank you for your replies. Did you guys experience any of these symptoms? I also have an extreme dry mouth for the past 4 weeks, ecspecially after I've eaten or drank something. What is the possibilility of it being Lada?

High Miemie. Sorry it's such a confusing place you're in. I can't add much, except that it would be useful to find out if it was indeed a c-peptide test you got, and exactly what was indicated.

I don't know the ANA test but had a look over the summary here: ANA: The Test (http://labtestsonline.org.au/understanding/analytes/ana/test.html) - it doesn't sound at all like it will pick up Type 1/1.5. As well as chasing up the C-peptide, ask for tests for those antibodies Linda mentioned above. The commonest one to test for (it seems) is GAD antibodies.

As for dry mouth, other symptoms: unfortunately, diabetes presents so many symptoms and varieties of symptoms, that beyond some of the classic signs of ketones (excessive urination, losing weight, body odour, sweet smelling urine, dehydration, insatiable urge for sweet food or drink) there's not a lot to be able to say with symptoms/side effects. And ketones will usually occur once insulin deficiency have caused BG levels to be 12 mmol/l upwards for some time, perhaps a few hours.

Dry mouth, anything like that, can be caused by so many things! Stick with getting those diagnostic tests done, and good luck.

hi subby thx for the advise, it was a c peptide test and the result was 3.8 but I dont know what the range was and what they measure it in, fasting bg 5 after 2 hrs 8.3. I just want to know what to do, or must I wait until its diagnosed. I also think I must do those anti body tests. Even if its just for my own peace of mind.
