This may be old news, but it's a good article (I'm just now catching up with the June/July issue!)

Fat Is Where It's At (http://www.odemagazine.com/doc/64/fat-is-where-its-at)by Janet Paskin/Ode Magazine/June-July 2009 issue

from the article:
A high-fat diet won’t necessarily make us sick or fat; a low-fat diet may not make us healthy or slim.

When people are eating whole food, real food diets, obesity is not a problem.

Good Morning Granny Shanny:

Great article! I always enjoy your resources (especially appreciate dyour advise on Strong Woman).

My last 6 days have been low carb (@ 15 per day) & therefore higher in fat and I AM eating much less, It takes me less food to feel satisfied and I don't get hungry between meals, so my snacks are smaller as well.

To tell you the truth I'm real surprised, I thought this was going to be a horrible way to live (I did LOVE my pasta & breads) and granted this may be the "honeymoon phase" but I'm very satisfied and craving free.

This might be old news but too many folks are still sufficiently brainwashed to ignore it... it certainly bears repeating.

Great article... thanks for posting it :congrats:

Hi hope this isnt considered a hijack but the topic is right for my question. Ive been reading that at 1 hr is 140 and 2 hrs is 120. Ive been much lower than that. I am wondering if I should eat carbs to get closer to those markers or just carry on. Couldnt tell you how many carbs just eating what i know doesnt put the points up. Any help would be very much appreciated.

no you do not need higher numbers, unless you are under 60 and feel like ****. you will be protecting yourself by keeping them at or below that level.

Heck no it isn't a hijack - it's a bump! :D :D :D

I've read the same numbers you mention, with the addition of a fasting BG of 100, as exemplifying really good control. I'm trying to conform, but it ain't easy . . . http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b202/sneezytwo/smileyundone.gif

Thanks Granny! This is a great article to start my day with.

Congrats to you Dis, I know it's not easy to go against traditional advice, but as you can see from your own numbers, it really works.I started at under 50 gs of carbs per day, but now can handle about 75g. My bg is okay with that, although I have to watch it or I start getting hungry.
Knoris, Yannnah is correct. Those numbers are the higher limit of what is ideal, not the numbers you should strive for.

Hi there!

I am always interested in studies not funded by anyone who has a monetary stake in their outcome :D

I know the fat/no fat is a huge debate. My stance is see what your own body tells you. If you can keep your lipids in a normal range without statins eating high fat, go for it and God bless! If not, and you have to limit fats, go for it and God bless! LOL

I don't believe there is a one size fits all when it comes to our bodies. I don't push anyone to think one way or the other on this issue, I DO push them to let their lipids tell the story, do research (medical sites, not blogs or Atkins sites) and adjust according to their bodies results.

No right or wrong, no brainwashing with that approach and it forces us to go with what our own results are. I would not, on the other hand, ever go low carb/high fat (or vice versa!) for more than 6 months without testing my lipids. For me, the high fat thing doesn't work to keep my lipids in line. Keeping my fats at 30% of my calories and sat fats to 4% or less does. When I tried the opposite, holy smokes...I was basically a solid  And for me, I won't use statins.

Take care!
