Hello everyone, new to the board

I have some questions. I am not diabetic, but wanted some info. First of all both are my parents are type 2 diabetic, dad was 56 when diagnosed and mom was just diagnosed at 49. What does this mean for me, I am a 29 year old male. My last fasting Glucose was 106 about a year ago, which my doctor said is in the "normal range." I was just put on Zocor 40mg, because my cholesterol has been around 260 since I was 21 and 50 pounds lighter. I am 6 foot and 210 pounds, a little overweight I know. My blood pressure is good like 118/78. I am mainly asking because I am unrinating alot lately, and drinking alot of water! I sweat all the time esp at night. I am always hungry esp after lunch and breakfast and get many afternoon headaches. I am just wanted to keep ahead of this, any insight or advice would be great. Thank you!

Well I would go checked out by a doctor and he he can check to see what you have. Diabetes is hereditary so I would get it check out. Don't wait because it can cause more problems if your are diabetic, I should have been checked years ago but kept saying nope don't need to go

Welcome Cosmo! With your strong family history, there is a good chance that at some point in your life you may indeed develop T2 diabetes. I'd encourage you to maintain a healthy weight and an active lifestyle. I'd also suggest that you have an annual physical exam to include an hemoglobin A1C (blood test showing 90 day average blood sugar level).

With both of your parents being diabetic, you probably have access to a meter and strips and the opportunity to check your blood sugar on occasion...i'd do this if I were you.

If you are having symptoms that concern you now, request that your doctor do a glucose tolerance test and an A1C, to either diagnose you, or to put your mind at ease.

I'd second what the others have posted. Just because your fasting glucose is good, doesn't mean it is after meals, so I'd have them check that too with the glucose tolerance test & A1C, especially as you are showing possible symptoms.

Also, get a blood sugar meter & when you feel off, like when you wake up sweaty at night - test your blood sugar immediately.
