View Full Version : Diabetic Socks?
What type of insulin will my diabetic socks require?
Or, is there a doctor that is needed to counsel regarding the insulin required?
Okay - enough silly-ness.
What in the world is this - a mere marketing ploy?
Or, do these things really have a value for us?
btw, twice the price of the other socks on the rack - but, made in USA - hey, I was hooked right off, as most things I see on the rack are made overseas - waaaay overseas, as in... china - and, I don't purchase made in china.
Thanks.

well, they usually are made to not interfere with circulation as
some people who have diabetes have serious issues with that.
they often don't have seams as seams can cause blisters.
stuff like that. it is in the line with diabetic shoes.
that is all I know.

Usually it's the elastic that is a problem for diabetics with poor circulation. If your feet and circulation are fine, you don't need special socks :)
I wear Teko and Smartwool mostly.. both of which are WAY more $$ than most "diabetic" socks at $12-15 a pair, and they've completely spoiled me :) I also knit my own.

I actually bought a pair of "diabetic socks" before we went on our last cruise, as I knew i'd be doing a lot more walking. I really can't tell any difference in them and my "non-diabetic" ones;) . I think they may be a bit looser at the top and are supposed to pull moisture away from the feet.
I won't likely buy another pair unless I start to have difficulty with feet swelling.
I'm in Florida
Maybe I wear socks 12 times a year.
Not an issue for me

None of the "Diabetic socks" I have tried seem worth the money to me. Usually, if I can find socks that are loose in the cuff and have a little swelling room in the foot area, they are just as good and much cheaper.

Well then - does anyone have an opinion on diabetic SHOES?
Our pharmacy stocks Dr. Comfort diabetic shoes, and I would think about getting a pair, if I heard good reviews. My biggest problem is walking our gravel roads wearing Crocs, which is the only shoe I wear, if and when I'm forced to wear shoes at all.

Granny -- do you buy the silver cloud crocs (if that's the name? The Diabetic ones??). Also -- crocs are AWFUL for walking on gravel -- or harder surfaces. I am big on New Balances, for outdoor wear. Much better shock absorption! May be less $$ than Dr. Comfort, too. Wear forever too.

Mine are just plain old Crocs . . . I haven't been shopping since the D diagnosis, and any extra funds go for test strips anyhow! lol!

Well if you like em you might want to go to their website and snap up some of the diabetic style ones ... they are about to go bankrupt!
I have about 6 prs of the regular ones, myself!
