It's me again, took a fasting this morning it was 99 after 12 hours of not eating. Non-diabetic. Lower then it has been at the Dr. Maybe I am okay after all.

Maybe. But 99 is close to 100 and I am told fasting bg is best under 100. Keep testing and good luck.

Thanks for the response. I took it yesterday two hours after eating a high carb meal and it was 155.

Actually, to point you in another (perhaps slightly unnerving) direction, Basal or Fasting Blood Glucose is the last place you see evidence of glucose intolerance. Which is why HbA1c and an OGTT (I know, you did that yesterday! ;) ) are better indicators of early-onset T2D.

I wouldn't feel super confident with that number. A random test in itself is never great to begin with. Even so, I don't think 100 is terrific. Just continue to track it for awhile and see where you are at consistently. You'll also find that what you had for dinner may have an effect on your morning glucose. Also, a fast later in the day might yield a lower FBS because many people run their highest fasting glucose upon waking.

Also, remember, there is variability in meters. And usually the cheaper the meter, the greater the variability. Up to 20% I believe. That would mean, in your case, theoretically, the true value lies somewhere between 80.2-118.8.

Also, for comparison - I'm full blown diabetic. In September of last year, a 300 fasting glucose was good enough to confirm that.

Here we are, 10 months later. On meds (insulin) for about 5 months, been off meds completely for the last 5 months. This morning's FBS? 87. It's a fantastic number. I'm happy with it. But you know what? I'm still a T2 diabetic. I'm just happen to be a T2 with very good control right now. But I will ALWAYS be a T2 diabetic. Now my goal is to be a T2 diabetic with very good control for the rest of my life.

I'm not trying to be a pain with this, I just don't want you to rest on the laurels of a sub-100 FBS reading. That's not wise. You have a family history. Even though a 99 is "acceptable", it's still trending towards a strong indicator that there may be problems. And yesterday's 2-hour post meal reading is another strong indicator.

I'm not a doctor so I can only offer opinions. And I'm not an overly experienced T2 either. Other people here have been dealing with this ALOT longer than myself. That being said, if you don't make some changes, I'd say your odds are pretty strong that you will become a T2.

And Linda brings up an excellent point. FBS might be the very last place you'll see evidence of a problem.

All good points, I will start making some changes to try and beat this thing to the punch!

That is the absolute best thing you can do :) ANY evidence of wacky blood sugars should be enough to want to make a change. If you work on this NOW, it'll probably be YEARS before you're on any kind of meds, and decades before insulin. Best advice: keep your carbs lowish and au-naturale and try to either reach or maintain a "fighting weight" :)

That's the spirit! Your beta cells will love you forever! :D :D :D

Yes the reading of 155 after your meal is the tip off all is not well. I have had much higher readings off an on. But the past few days I had readings in the morning of lower 90s which is only due to keeping vigilant. If I were to eat like I used to, no doubt the thing would see a big jump after a while..

Just do what you need to be safe, its your only bet..

As others have said, fasting is the last to rise. Let me put in perspective for you. See my sig? I am officially Pre-D ,but get as high as 280 (once as high as 330 though I am not sure as to the accuracy of that particular test).

If it werent fro the people here telling me to test after meals, I would never have a clue. My fastings are perfect. It is only once in a blue moon that I am over 100, and yet clearly there is something wrong. Test your fastings, but also test 2 hours after eating. You don't need to be testing every half hour like you did on your other thread. You will be driving yourself nuts.
